As an extension of the master bath project, this was part 2. Homeowner knew there was a fireplace behind a wall in the master bedroom which was originally the parlor. Past owners had removed the mantle, demoed the facing and hearth. Current owner wanted to see if it could be found and made operational again. I love doing architectural archaeology.

Great job! Nothing like a masonry fireplace. They are quite rare in anything built around here in the past 25 years.

When I first started reading I thought this was going to be a look what I found behind the wall story. Like Jimmy Hoffa or a bag of gold or something.

What I find behind the wall.......

A fellow contractor who does historic stuff found a pristine original Harper's Ferry 1842 musket wrapped in oils kind. Most I've found are some patent medicine bottles and old coins.

My old spinster great aunts who lived together (three of the four) in great grand dad's big, old, rotting victorian house in "downtown" Red Springs till they died supposedly had an argument over who would get a mid 18th century revolutionary era musket that had been in the family 200 years. One supposedly got mad and took it into the attic and hid it down in one of the walls.

I searched that whole attic as an eighth grader. I found granddad's WWI uniform (who grew up in the house with them) and some other cool things, but never found the musket. The house was knocked down in the 70's and a bank sits there now. :(

Nice work. That looks great.
