The rope going into the housing. What is it for??

WE were SO THANKFUL there was the rope when we had to replace our pump. With the rope and pipe there were two things to hold onto when lifting the heavy 100’ of pipe filled with water. Once you reach the pipe that was below water level it’s slippery, then our pipe snapped and the wires broke with ~20’ left to go.
 
That rope can come in handy. The only time I’ve pulled my pump some dirt had fallen on it in the well. I used the rope, steel tube and a ratchet strap to pull it free. Tube across the well house with the strap hooked to it and tied the rope to that. The extra force pulled the pump free without to much extra pressure.
