Is it a Pistol, Rifle, or SBR?

I have a CVA scout pistol chambered in 6.5 creedmoor. I saw that Sharp Bros had created a replacement grip for the pistol that would make it easy to attach a folding brace to the back to make it easier to hunt with. With a 14 inch barrel, it would obviously be an “SBR” with the new pistol brace law. So I found a 2.75 inch break and pin and welded it in place, making the barrel just over 16 inches. So my barrel is 16 inches and with the brace attached I meet the OAL requirement of 26 inches. I now have a rifle? Really don’t want to make it into an SBR. Am I legally in the clear now? Or do I need to put the old pistol grip back on it and shoot it like a traditional pistol? Just new to all of these rules. Don’t have ARs so I’m not even sure if the rules are the same for a single shot firearm. Any clarity is appreciated!

What you have pictured (IMHO) is a stock, not a brace. It appears to have a full flat surface intended to be shouldered. So with it fully extended, if you’re at least 26”, you’re ok as far as OAL goes.

If the barrel has a pinned muzzle device that puts it at least 16” (measured the right way), then you’re should be good as far as barrel length goes.

Braces are trickier, as you actually measure OAL with the brace removed (or folded if that’s the design). I don’t believe that changed with the pistol brace ruling, which actually isn’t in effect for a lot of people.

IIRC once a pistol is converted to a rifle, it cannot be converted back to a pistol. Not that such law makes any sense, but neither do any of the other ones.

That picture is a stock photo that I found online. I haven’t put the brace I have on my firearm yet so I didn’t have a picture of it completed. Didn’t want to attach anything until I was sure I was legal. I will attach a picture of my brace with this comment. I was just trying to show the overall idea. Didn’t realize that was a stock.

My understanding is...

If a gun begins life as a rifle, it is always a rifle.

If it begins life as a pistol, it can be swapped back and forth as you wish.

@TRaGiK gave the answer.

If he started from a pistol, he can go back.

That one folds, right?

The way they said to measure a brace was with the brace removed/folded/etc. Whatever the shortest config is. Which is the opposite of measuring for an SBR with a stock.

I haven’t done much thinking, or seen it written, on how to handle that with the pending brace crap.

The safe move would be to use a stock like in the pic you found and posted.

A single shot 14" 6.5" creed is ridiculous.
That's friggin' neat.

It’s honestly a blast to shoot as a pistol. I’ve shot 1.5 inch groups at 100 yards. Just wanted to add the brace/stock to make myself a little more accurate for hunting. Can’t really shoot off a bench
