Was talking with a law enforcement supply shop this morning. We got on the topic of ammunition. They are selling .40 S&W for $8 a box and having a hard time getting rid of it.

Yep that’s right a 1K case for $160 bucks. At what point will people say it’s time to start shooting .40 again because it’s so affordable? Don’t know about you, but I think I’m there!

What say you?

well, i am a .40 fan, and it was the only pistol caliber regularly in stock during the "shortage".
currently, i am considering buying more (ammo/guns) due to the deeply discounted prices.

Agreed on the shop. Do they sell online and ship to the Midwest?
I really don’t see .40 going anywhere soon as there are far too many in circulation. We’ll burn through store and distributor stocks and then it will become something more akin to a “niche”round they can charge a premium on. Just look at the 6.5 Carcano.

Anyone actually shot .40 through a 10MM, I keep hearing it can be done but don't wanna be a guinea pig?
I hear you can burn through extractors on some but other than that would it ruin anything?
Am I totally ignorant?

I will take a 40 cal over a 9mm any day, an yes you can shoot a 40 cal in a 10 mm.. I would only do it in a practice setting not as a regular CCW component… in the past I have had a very few miss feeds in my Colt Delta Elite as well as my Glock 23, after all a 40 cal is a 10mm short..if you will please list your source for the ammo. I would like to purchase a few cases…

Thanks! I'll pick some up then. $160 for 1K for plinking sounds a lot more fun than whatever 10mm costs now.

I read this last year. Since my family has a no-new-calibers rule, the knowledge is academic.
However, I did use a pal's Glock 20.

at 16cpr, it doesn't take much to pay for a whole new pistol in 40S&W or 10mm

this is even 10cpr less than bulk 9mm ...

for the academic exercise, this pistol costs $280
which means that you only have to shoot less than 3000 rounds for the ammo savings to pay for the gun

I listed the shop upstream. I do not know about their shipping policies. Can’t hurt to ask.

With a name like that can you say if they sell to people without badges?
They mentioned a retail section. So I just assumed they would sell certain things to the public. However, it wouldn’t hurt to make a call before going to the store.
