I bought this rifle of the forum. Really like it. Marlin-made JC Higgins (model 35?) which is basically a 336. Mainly a deer rifle for me. Wanted to shoot the iron sights but my eyes are just not up to it so I guess I am going to scope her up.

I would like to keep the scope down real low so small objective. Thinking of a fixed power scope like Leupold FX II 2.5 x 20 or LVPO. Would like to mount a little more forward than I would a bolt gun to not interfere with hammer.

Any suggestions on a set up here?

Go 26mm and up on the objective. You won't easily hunt the first and last 5 mins of prime time with smaller.

Any marlin base and most low height rings will work up to 36-40 mm. All the marlin bases are tall. Only option to go lower is to mill the base thinner

Gorgeous Rifle!
I have an older Leopoldo M8 3X in Leupold low rings and a 1-piece base.
Good luck in your choice.
I like the fixed 2.5X option.

Mount the scope where you naturally would to get on target quickly.

Then pick yourself up an Uncle Mikes extended hammer. There’s a couple of versions out there for different shaped hammer spurs.

See if you can find a Leupold Vari-X III 2.5-8x36mm Rifle Scope.

I have the exact rifle, got it for my 14th birthday. It is a JC Higgins model 45 chambered in .35 Remington. I bought my son the 30-30 win, It is the model Marlin 30AS, not the 336.
