I try not to preach the "arm yourself" thing TOO much to friends and family, but sometimes those somewhat (harsh) subtle hints hit home.
My absolutely gorgeous niece has informed me that she wants to pick my brain about her first handgun purchase at our family Christmas gathering tomorrow!
I'm beside myself!....probably gonna take more than I should for her to try (not a problem).
I get all exited when chit like this pops up!

Now Snal....we all know you love your Rugers....but make sure you include GLOCK in your discussion!
Lol

Congrats

I have a standing offer to my grand daughters. If they want a CHP and pistol it's on me.

SNAL I understand your joy.

Good deal to have...I hope they take you up on it!

5 years ago I offered to pay for the class for all our kids...one took me up on it.
As for the grandsons...I got them their first Rugers before they were born...they are 5 now...almost ready.

Congrats!

My baby sister (young enough to be my daughter) wants hers. I took her shooting a couple weeks ago, her and her husband went to the gun show with me. She has been chatting me up about CCW permits and weapons lately. I'm sure tomorrow night will revolve (pun intended) around gun chats.

She asked me why I was suggesting a 9mm for her, was it because she was a girl? Love that young lady.

Our late father was a Marine vet of Korea and police officer, we grew up with guns in our hands, mostly 45acp. She hadn't shot since he passed in 2010.

Oh and for those that might read this. I want to fix the barrel lug pin on his issued 1911 so she can shoot it once before I retire it for good but I won't leave it with anyone.

Congrats, Larry.

I too have a nephew who I overheard saying he was going to get a CCW when I was home at Thanksgiving. I made a beeline to him and told him that I would be paying for him to take some substantial training in preparation for the responsibility of carrying. Up to this point I had considered him to me a typical millennial pacifist, who knew. This will give he and I some quality time together as he gets up to speed.

Well, we didn't get a chance for her to shoot anything, but she seems to be most interested in a revolver. Hope to schedule some range time with her soon.

Got a call from my step-son tonight...he's heading to the purchase permit office tomorrow!

One at a time...they are proving that they actually listen to me! :)

I can see an LCR in her future.

I have enjoyed becoming the family member that the rest seek out for firearm advice. Always emphasize responsibility and respect for firearms... make 'em memorize the four rules. ;)

I can't tell you how many times I've had to jump in and say something about safety. 3 times in one week I responded (privately) to friends after they posted pics of themselves with firearms...and their finger on the trigger! I really wanted to respond publicly...so EVERYBODY got it.

Pointed her that way, dangled the wife's .22 and my .38 in front of her.

How did I guess that?

Snal~ that's great! My son fell right into the shooting thing and he can now shoot rifles better than me, (eyesight thing) but he can't get me with a handgun. My daughter never cared until I came home for R&R from Afghanistan and she turned 17. She wanted a can of mace and a pink gun. I bought her a pink Walter P 22 and she shoots it like a champ. Paid for her training because I can't train her. She know is a college student in her Masters program and carries a G42. She did a paper on debating gun rights, I thought she's fighting a losing battle but she dotted her i s and crossed all her t s. She got an A on it! I was thrilled! Anyway, our young people are the life of the rights that we hold so dear and anytime we can get even one of them interested, we've done good!

Me too brother! I had a friend of the wife ask me to teach her to shoot. She showed up at the range and we spent the first hour just on safety! When we we in to shoot, I had 2 six foot tables full of pistols! We went through feel, grip, safeties, mag releases, sights, the whole works. She said, "I just wanted to learn to shoot!" Well, ts what we did.

Nice. Taking the family to the range tomorrow. Youngest on the FV-SR. Sighting in the CZ455 and turning the oldest loose with it. Might get her on the shotgun too. Possibly a pistol. I've got some handgun loads to try out. Wife will pull the trigger on something, hopefully her Bodyguard.
