Congratulations @Litl_Red for winning our April/May challenge. He will be providing us with our target for this month.

A reminder of our rules below. Haven’t shot with us before? Just do it!

Standard CFF Monthly Rimfire Benchrest Challenge Rules
- Target size: standard 8 1/2 X 11 paper
- Target distance: 50 yards
- Any position you like
- Front rests, bipods, front/rear bags, bunny ears.... all are ok
- No full length rifle mechanical rail/sled type rests allowed
- Iron sights or any optics allowed
- All done on the honor system. Shoot it, score it, post it.
- winner chooses the target and challenge for following month
- post copy of target and pictures of your rifle setup and ammo used

Good shooting everyone!

for scoring, if

edit: removed picture of proposed target to cut confusion

the shot touches the animal it can be worth 5 points,
if it doesn't but is inside the black border it can be worth 1.

think an X count is needed?
any shot entirely within animal counts as an X.

something new to try

Going to need 1-2 tiebreakers for sure. The targets are very large for 50 yards.

As dusk approached I gave the new target a try in the backyard. An illuminated reticle would be helpful on the black creatures. One turkey jumped out of the way, otherwise it was a good run. Trying to set the bar high.

wow ! ! ! ! what a start

What size paper is that, Eric? I tried to make a 8.5X11 print but it looks like I screwed up something.

I also apologize for messing up the scoring description.
I should have said "entirely inside the line scores 1 point" to be clearer. sorry...

edit: or to make 1 pt easier to get: say "or touch inside line".

It won't take a minute to fix the wordage. OK?

I just tried printing one by copying not the link but the pic that @Litl_Red posted and it seems the be the correct size.

When I printed it as 8 1/2 × 11 landscape it cut off the scoring instructions. The instructions printed on the back. The circle measured 1 inch across. I will try portrait and see if the circle is the same size and let you know. We should all be shooting the same dimensions. I don't mind shooting it again.

Sorry, it's early and I should put on my glasses. Chickens are1 inch circles. Hogs 1 1/16 × 1. Turkeys 1 inch tall by 7/8 wide. Rams are 1 1/8 wide by 7/8 tall. I printed landscape with the instructions and the targets are identical in size.

You got the important details. The chicken circles being 1" is enough measuring to proof your printouts.

I put black in the 4 corners of the latest version to help everyone with print alignment.
and I changed the scoring description to match your 96 scoring.

That target is in post #20.

Thanks for helping sort it out.

Nice and cool today. Shot 2 more targets. My concentration is tested with 20 shots to make. It is tough to call some of the x's. If there is any black left in tact on the edge I counted it. I used the same rifle this time, but will break out another one later this week.

Definitely fun to shoot. Plan on a box of ammo to warm up, sight in and shoot 2 targets. I am glad these critters have limbs to hit.

New to the forum and new to the monthly competition. I shot 2 targets yesterday and below is the best of the 2. My rifle shoots the TAC-22 pretty well, but its not as consistent as pricier SK ammo. But at $4 a box I'm not complaining.

My setup is:

CZ 457 AT-One
Area 419 Rail (15 MOA)
Yo Dave Trigger Spring
Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25x56
Norma TAC-22 (Red Box)

I shot this indoors at the Wake County Firearms Education Center.

Well.i am taking advantage of my Wife's trip to Scotland & Ireland by attempting to shoot this new target. It was a perfect morning but it reminded me of the Movie, "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" the morning started out good my first target was Bad and my last target was Ugly.
I have shot some really good groups with Tac 22 but today despite some glory it let me down.
Will have to try this again with different ammo.

Looks like I wasn’t the only one able to take advantage of such a nice day. Here are my 2 best targets.

CZ 457 w/ Lilja barrel
Vortex viper glass
had Eley club and Target with me but as expected SK long Match out performed both and gave me my best scores on the day.
Best I could do was a 92 with 11x‘s. Lack of concentration on one shot and anger miss on one after or …..

Welcome to the forum and happy to have another shooter join us. Great score!

@Bows & Bullets and I went to the range this afternoon for a little shooting. Here are our targets. We shot 2 rounds, and the first was not impressive at all. I had removed the action from the stock and didn’t have it torqued properly. Had to tweak the action bolts a little to get the CZ 457 back shooting. I still don’t have them exactly where they need to be but my torque wrench is the standard Wheeler FAT wrench and it’s hard to dial in. I got her in points but she got me in X.

First up is mine.

This is a point first game where x count is used as tie breaker on points. Sorry B&B, Joe got it.

I think I may be able to shoot this month. Just want to make sure I printed the target correctly. The top row circle measures 15/16. Is this correct?

That sounds about right. I measured 1 inch on the top circles. Enjoy the challenge. 20 shots. It is tough to hit them all. Good luck.

20 shots was challenging. I really enjoyed it though. It really shows if you get in a hurry and try to rush your shots.

Good shooting for both of you but yes, points take X’s. Wish I could say differently since that would put me in the lead.
Always a day late, dollar short..
