911, the phone company, power company, my doctor’s office, most businesses, all government offices, anybody outside the outage area, my friends who are smart enough to also have a landline………

An ATT field tech recently told me that they're "quietly retiring" copper lines. That's code speak for "not maintaining them."

I'd bet you all of those mentioned are on a digital VOIP line, not POTS.

and let me tell you, VOIP is fantastic! it prevents a lot of calls from coming through to my desk through no action of my own or anybody else's.
our home line likes to hang up on people when they call us about 30 seconds after we connect.

don't bother me AND talk fast if you have to - 2-in-1 bonus.
