Well whenever I have a question you guys always seem to have my back!

GF's 2008 4cy Kia Sportage is acting up again.

This winter the heat would not stay consistent it would work intermittently or for a short bit then cut off. Anyways it warmed up outside so we didn't worry about it. Now the AC is doing the same thing. Will blow cold for a bit then cut off or halfway through the drive will cut on for a bit. So I thought it was the blower motor actuator but turns out the one I bought is the one that controls which vent it comes out of. Before I buy the Blend Actuator am I on the right track thinking that would be the problem. Any other possibilities you guys can think of?

Thanks all!

Just to be clear, the air is cold, it just stops blowing intermittently?

Check to see if the blend actuator has a re learn procedure first. That will sometimes correct the problem. There will be a sequence to follow usually takes a few minutes. Check online.

Does it stop blowing altogether, or does it keep blowing but changes from cold air to warm and vice versa? If it stops blowing out of the driver's vents, does it start blowing louder through passenger vents, defrost vents, etc?

If there’s not a popping sound coming from the dash I doubt it’s a actuator. Possibly a broken blend door. Low ac charge pressure is a likely culprit. Next time it cuts out pop the hood and see if the clutch is spinning on the compressor.

I’ll check that out but would that explain while it did it with the heat as well?

70% of the time problems are related. It’s the other 30% that gets ya. For instance you could have a thermostat that sticks open occasionally as well as a low charge on your ac. Could even been a failing clutch on the compressor. I try to help when I see these threads but in all honesty there’s so many things (both common and obscure) that can cause your issue that I hesitate to say go buy this, or try that.

The easiet thing for you to check without a scan tool or power probe would be if the clutch is actually engaged on the compressor when it stops cooling. (And that’s counting on it having a magnetic clutch and not being a linear compressor) Or if there’s an ac line with frost on it indicating a blockage.
