I'm struggling to find any great info on this.

I'm looking to get a Kalashnikov USA KP-9. I want to add a brace, light and optic.

I have a spare SBA3 lying around, and since I want a light, I'll need either new handguards or an Ultimak (prob easier).

What type of options do I have that aren't directly from KUSA and some crazy price for private labeling? Who's handguards and stock adapters can I use besides the stuff at KUSA and Zenitco? Even if I did go with the KUSA stuff, rarely are these things ever in stock there.

Finally, will a traditional safety selector fit these? I want to add a Krebs ambi selector.

The KP-9 will take a standard AKM selector lever. No worries there. The KP-9 should come stock with a 1913 railed top cover, so optics mounted should be easy.

As far as a brace, I'd sell that SBA3 and get a CNC Warrior folding brace instead. It's lighter, stronger and folds thinner. If you're sold on the KP-9 then CNC Warrior also makes a folding hinge for the KP-9 that take a M4 buffer tube for the SBA3.

The Ultimak M19 is made for the KP-9. A Surefire light on a Haley Strategic Thorntail mount is a rock solid illumination solution on that Ultimak.

Sick. Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you. I didn't know CNC Warrior had their own braces.

@digitalpaladin10 - does the KP-9 come with the picatinny section to install the CNC brace, or would I have to get that separately?

Edit: NVM, looks like it's another $80 for a 5.5mm adapter.

I have a couple things in the BST. I switched my handguard to wood and went with the picatinny adapter for a brace.

@IrishCannon what did you end up going with?

I am trying to figure out best route for running a brace to break in and confirm function then upgrade to a stock upon approved form1.

I honestly still haven't committed to a PCC. The KP9 seems like one of the better options but I'm just still a little hesitant. The initial cost for the weapon isn't bad but the follow up is pretty tough for something that I still won't be using as a dedicated anything.

I've ran an APC9K at work and considering you can get the model to run on Glock mags, quality sights included, easy to mount an optic...it's quite possibly a better alternative for the money.

If I came across a solid deal on a used KP9 it would be hard to say no, but people seem to like them. I'll wind up with something eventually.

We have a KP 9
I have ran the gambit of PCCs over the past 5 years - the KP is one of the best.
Buy mags by the 5 pack KUSA runs promos often
The hand guard is slightly shorter - I took an older wood set I had laying around and worked it over with a file - my daughter has claimed and she wanted the classic wood.
Brace - honestly I picked up a KUSA brace early on because it was on sale and it works fine. For higher dollar options I really like the JMAC

I stand by the KP9 all the way. Already got a few thousand rounds down the pipe and at this point it's almost boring to shoot. It shoots extremely tight groups, barely kicks, and eats whatever you feed it. It doesn't havethe decency to throw a curveball my way with the occasional jam or failure to feed. The one malfunction I've had with it was a bad priner, and the fact that it didn't go bang was extremely jarring, since I was so used to it going bang every single time.

That aside, I run a Zenitco PT1 fitted with a tailhook adapter and isle mfg length of pull reducer. Standard handguards, and a Delta-Tek flash hider. For optics, an EOTech EXPS2. I also have a cheap amazon cantilever pic rail that I mounted onto the pic rail segment underneath the FSGB, which I have a surefire light on. It's extremely solid, fits in a backpack, and with subsonic rounds it's about as loud as a nailgun. I've had it configured like this for about two years, and it's earned a place as my preferred home defense gun.

All in all they're fantastic, and while the proprietary mags are a bit of a pain, nobody buys an MP5 and complains about it not taking glock/CZ mags. That said, the mags really arent an issue if you buy the bulk packs from KUSA. They're in the neighborhood of $30 a pop, which really isn't a lot. It's roughly on par with most higher end PCC mags.

As someone who's owned both an SP5 and a KP9, I can confidently say that both are relatively on par with each other in a semi auto configuration, though the MP5 would take a clear lead if both were select fire. The main advantage to the KP9 is definitely its pricepoint and market availability in relation to SP5's, in addition to its lack of a need for maintenance to the degree that rollerguns do eventually need. If I knew parts availability was going to be an issue in the long term, I would definitely choose the KP9 over the SP5.

In my opinion the KP9 is a far superior design to any 9mm AK alternative, and is definitely one of the top 3 PCC's available on the market today. For what it is, and the utility it provides, I feel the price is fairly modest, and recommend them wholeheartedly.
