Larry's Thoughts on 9mm

If I lived in a state where mag capacity was limited I might pick 40 or 45 (or I might move) but since I don't, I gotta agree with him and carry a 9mm.

Now if more companies would offer an affordable 1911 in 9mm we could settle that one too :)
 
Just cause Larry can't akimbo style two .45acps doesn't mean .45acp is no good

I say shoot what u can handle, if u can't place a round on target with carry caliber then u need to practice more

I've messed around some with 45acp and .40, but I keep going back to 9mm. I like the higher mag capacity in a smaller package, and the guns are easier and cheaper to shoot. With quality, modern ammo, I feel like 9mm would do anything I need it to do.

I'll have to see if I can find that Ayoob article from American Handgunner, where he tells the story of the cop getting shot by the bad guy 15 times at point blank from a 9mm. The cop now travels around the country to cop events telling his story.

My son arrested a gangbanger who shot another gangbanger. The shooter stood over the shootee and shot him 5 times in the chest while he was laying on the ground with a 45. The cockroach didn't die!

My guess is it was with ball ammo....most thugs don't spend the cash for better hollow points,
 
It is all about shot placement not caliber once you get above 9mm. Whenever you hear stories abou someone getting shot X number of times and living if you look closely into the story the hits did not strike any vitals that lead to massive blood loss or a nervous system damage. They might have been center mass but did not hit any vitals.

LAV and KH talked a lot about being able to hit a grapefruit sized target at speed. If you can put 5 shots into the center of someone’s chest the size of a grapefruit even with 9mm ball ammo that person is not going to continue to live much longer.

With handgun rounds there is no stopping power. You either have to crash nervous system or hit something to cause rapid blood loss. IMHO all calibers 9mm and up are capable of this.

Shoot the one you shoot best.

Yup... unless you get a "real" head shot and shut down the computer handguns are not going to drop someone in one shot.

I'm an avid handgun enthusiast, but I appreciate the power of a proper rifle cartridge in a long barrel. Still, at the end of the day, I'm wayyyy more likely to defend myself with my handgun than a rifle. If I'm using my rifle to defend myself in likely poop has severely hit the fan.
