Might have been break in, might have been ammo but seemed to have more trouble with Stingers and especially Punch on my new LCPII. Searching the ever reliable interwebs it seems I’m not alone but of course plenty of folks report spotless reliability records. Anyone spend time with this? Might switch to Minimags as they had no problems and were among most accurate but wouldn’t mind something with more… punch.

I think the issue might be the light bullet weight not generating enough recoil over time. I'd look at Velocitors. 40gr 1400fps (rifle) goodness.
You're not looking for expansion in a .22 round anyway. You want penetration.

I do need to check them out, heard good things but haven’t used them. The Puch is supposed to be faster with better penetration though. The Stingers are pretty hot, but it’s a possibility.

That 29gr bullet is pretty light for an already small bullet. IMHO

CCI SGB work great for me.

There is a reason The Punch is a flat tip. Penetration. Straight penetration (unlike round nose and hollow points). But it's too light.

Sounds like I just need more break in hopefully. I’ll check out some Velocitors too.

Interestingly, the Velocitors have more of a dimple than a hollow point.

Hmm... I didn't know they still made these, 36gr solid truncated cone, Viper.

Possible it could need more break in, my lcp22lr was used before I got it and so far it's run most everything.

Might seem kind of strange, maybe not, but when I have a 22lr auto loader pistol being picky, I usually run some of this for a while because in every case, I've had it run pretty much flawlessly through every 22lr I've had. 1000013285.jpg
I've read many folks call it "slightly better than Minimags" and when I was buying it, it was always less expensive by the brick than jewel cases of Minimag.

Heard good stuff about it as well. Runs $32ish here so not a huge savings but not too worried about that cost. Still cheaper than anything else.

I'm about to take mine out this afternoon. MiniMag only.

Also Ruger and Savage .22 mag rifles. Various brands of ammo.

Oddly enough the only hiccups I have had were with Stingers (first mag, brand new gun, didn't feed 2 out of 10), which I immediately (and not very fairly) ceased using, went through a couple boxes of Punch with no issue, but then decided to add some round count using the el cheapo, bulk pack, Aguila 38gr CPHP, and danged if there has yet to be a malfunction with them.

Prob not wise, but until I run into a malfunction with them, that's what I keep in it now, El Cheapo.

IIRC, Stingers are unique because the cases are actually longer than a standard LR case. This, along with the lighter high speed bullet increase the likelihood of less than optimal function.

Yeah and that was basically the situation, partially fed, but stopped well before everything was lined up, looking suspiciously like some interaction in the crimp area possibly added extra friction.

Brand new gun, good chance it wouldn't do it now, but I was in a hurry to find reliable rounds to run it with.

Punch is really the first serious development in a long time for this particular purpose. Arguably the first since the roll out of Tha Stanger many moons ago.

Heard the same about the Stingers though and I think it’s a tapered bullet with same OAL. So unless the crimp is hanging it shouldn’t cause an issue?

Not saying it's an issue specifically, because there not really a throat, just that it's non-standard. And anything non-standard can contribute to overall problems.
