Friend of mine finishes X-ray rooms and has leftover lead.
can this lead be used by those who cast?
Any interest in purchasing and how to fairly price it?

I've sold similar for $1/lb in the past+ shipping. You might get more in this craziness. You can fold it up and put #70 in a LRFB and give 19 postal workers hernias on it's way to your buyer.

A couple small scraps will also makes good padding for vice jaws,

They'll just leave it sitting in the first place it gets parked,,,Hell, they can't even pick up a box with a handgun in it and sent it to it's correct place. IN TRANSIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does it absorb radiation?

It’s kinda pricey to convert to ingots (time, effort and energy) and then you’ve got to add antimony and tin to make it useful for bullet casting. Folks that swage jacketed bullets could use it as could the blackpowder crowd.

I happen to have lots of tin and antimony as well as a big casting pot, so I’d be interested in it all at $.50/lb, above that it’s really too much work. Any idea what the weight is and are you willing to meet somewhere convenient?

I added linotype to mine and it does find. Little more expensive, but it works great.

That works, lino has antimony in it. You can also use clip on wheel weights (but not stick on) and other types of printer lead. As lead wheel weights disappear folks are consuming the old printer alloys and have started buying “super hard” from roto metals to add to plain lead. It’s a pretty good deal because it’s hard to make the first alloy of lead and antimony, so they do that and you just add what you need.

Thanks...
I have been casting a little over 2 years, so I am new to this. I own a scrap yard, so I get all the good lead I need. And that's what I did to my soft lead. Wheel weights are mostly crap that come in now. I am still learning from peps like you! And I appreciate the tips!

Cool! What yard do you own? I bet you have some potential customers on this forum. Either selling to you or buying from you. : )
I am in Garner NC next to camping world. I sell scrap. I don't mix things. I will help out someone who reloads and sell them at market. Or sometimes a little lower. Mainly for their personal use....not to resale.

If ya need a new BFF, I’m available. ;) 🤣

kidding aside, would you mind messaging me your resell pricing on brass and lead?

Yeah I wouldn’t ask you to go below market, it’s clearly worth something for you to source the stuff and get it into piles and buckets. Will reach out next time I’m headed that way, and in the meantime if anyone is traveling this way I could use a few buckets of brass, even unsorted range brass if that’s what you got.

Had I known a week ago...Was just up in Fuquay meeting a member. Jim, if I make the trip again soon I’d be happy to bring yours back with me.

Thank you all that replied on pricing.
once I hear from my buddy about his guesstimate on the weight, I will post it for sale in the “Parts & Accessories” in the classified.

I cast for black powder and that stuff makes great boolits as is. Convert to ingots or just cut into strips to add to the pot. I’ve done it both ways.

To the OP'er; I'd use a a smelting pot and flux it at least a couple times if they are that dirty. No way I'd put it in a pot like it is.

@Bullseye Baldee : don't live close enough to visit your lot, but thank you for selling to casters. I have a lot that sells scrap, but a couple others don't, and that makes it very frustrating.

I have used over 600 lbs of reclaimed sheet lead. It’s pure lead, just dirty. I melt it down in large batches(45-50 lbs) & throw the flux to it then I mix it with wheel weights 75/25 % with sheet lead being the 25%. Then I cast and powder coat.
