At this point y'all have probably realized based on most of my posts I love a few things, with my toddler and wheel guns being at the top of that list. So today my almost 3yo told me she wanted to go fishing in my kayak and catch a fish. I off hand made a comment about it in days past and she remembered. And so here I am seeking advice about where to fish in NC and what for in December. I grew up fishing lakes and ponds, and will admit I'm much more experienced and seasoned with a rifle than a reel. But for the little folks I guess I'll figure it out.

With that said, I'm in central NC. We have plenty of ponds around the farm, and no shortage of lakes. In an effort to ensure we have the best results, what exactly would you guys recommend fishing for this time of year? I don't mind traveling even the slightest if it means fishing for a species not here near me. So as I said, learn me please.

This time of year to keep it simple considering her age, I would use natural baits such as crickets, worms and minnows. She is three so catching anything is better than nothing. If you have access to a pond you could put out a minnow trap ahead of time and have bait that the bass and such are familiar with. Of course, artificial baits could work also. A warmer day may help also.

What about breams and chit?

They can still be caught in the cold water, right?

If you have access to farm ponds and lakes near by. Bass, all types of sunfish, crappie, perch maybe striped or hybrid bass depending on what lakes your close to. These species can be caught fairly easily year round. Pretty much every species has to eat though year round. There just moving slower in the cold so like has been said you want to use some good reaction baits or live bait to help entice a bite. Just remember a bad day fishing is better then a good day at work specially if your spending the time with the younguns
