Let's Say that the Assault Weapons Bill Passes

So you want to know what we would do if the gov't passed unconstitutional gun laws - and you want us to post it here?

The U.S. gov't has been unconstitutionally infringing on our gun rights since 1934. Everything in the '34 NFA or '68 CGA and most of the other state gun laws are in direct opposition to the 27 words of the 2nd amendment.

And we take it. We dutifully take our CCW courses, fill out paperwork, some fill out more paperwork get photos and fingerprints and pay a $200 tax, etc.

Maybe some will draw the line here and defy the laws, make and/or hide their "contraband"....some will get rid of it. No one's business.

I imagine some folks would just keep their safes shut until the next election when the majority changed hands and the law gets repealed? One could hope can’t they 😜 some years folks will be felons, others law abiding citizens lol
Gun laws don’t get repealed, just look at Colorado, they recalled the politicians, but the bans are still in effect.

You might want to check out post 26.

Also, if rhetorical topics with ”undefined scenarios” are out of bounds, this place is going to get real quiet.
I assume you read the bill linked in post 26 ... I did.
How many of you would continue owning and shooting firearms at the level you do today without having a semi-auto high capacity firearm.
That is a meaningless question for forum members given the provisions of the bill, which would not affect current possession. And anyone can ask a question about an "undefined scenario" but will get answers as meaningless as the question.

But hey, I got two pages of responses on a off the wall question.;) I just hope that it continues to be an "undefined scenario" and remain meaningless. I have a bad gut feeling that if these senseless shootings continue there will come a time in the near future where the politicians of both parties will react and do something stupid.

Dale, will you be disappointed when you reach the end of your life and you’ll have never needed to kill Americans who disagree with your sense of right and wrong?
He doesn’t want to kill anyone he doesn’t need to.

Anyone who knows him would know that.

Do you understand that he is a man who will run into a burning building to save a life?

Can you grasp the concept that he has an irrevocable moral compass?

I will, especially if I think I’m leaving that responsibility to my son.

But I also don’t consider most of them to be Americans…

Will you be disappointed when a consistently contrarian personality leaves you utterly alone in the world?

Ease the hell up and think about how you're speaking to real people of known quantity.

…and in case it wasn’t clear, I’m not saying that as an anti Muslim, foreigner, immigrant, or whatever else somebody may assume, statement. I say it for a similar reason as to why I wore this shirt last month when I voted early in-person.

To answer your question no. He won’t be disappointed he never had to kill Americans. He won’t do such a thing but if he kills anyone He won’t be killing Americans….communists ain’t Americans.

I have family roots tracing back to before and participating in the Revolutionary war. I hope I don’t let my ancestors down
I guess we were Boston lackies but we threw some tea in the Philadelphia harbor. Didn’t get the noteworthy though.

Regardless the intent, the OP has an interesting point though. Maybe we don’t comply or keep using but A) 5.56 would get more scarce since there wouldn’t be many legal guns that run it. B) even if we kept them and fired them regularly we couldn’t talk about it openly, transfer them, sell them, and you’d put your dogs at risk talking about parts, accessories etc. Even those who won’t comply, I commend you but are you going to openly flaunt them? If you are, what’s your plan?

Not nearly as disappointed as I would be if I had to look into the eyes of my wife/kids and try to answer their question, “Why didn’t you stand up?”

That…will…not…happen. You hear me?

These discussions always bring me to this image/thought/quote. It brings a tear to my eye at the pospects of either outcome. And I pray that I will not be too weak or too slow to do what I need to do, if I must.

According to the text of the bill, Mini 14=good, AR of any persuasion=bad. Nonsense.

Also:
Any part, combination of parts, component, device, attachment, or accessory that is designed or functions to accelerate the rate of fire of a semiautomatic firearm but not convert the semiautomatic firearm into a machinegun.

Does this mean that if my friend can shoot faster than me he is illegal? HAHA

Trigger fingers are assault weapons.

This is what I'm talking about. It was posted earlier in another thread. And it passed the House and is now in the Senate.

And like always, the government exempts themselves from the law.
A) 'Grandfathering' wouldn't happen.
I stopped reading at Section 3 [2] that says....does not apply to possession, sale or transfer of Any lawfully owned firearm listed above before the date of passage of this law....my only question is....how will they differentiate?

It's a valid question and no I don't think the OP is the ATF. IMO he brings up a good point in that I've always felt the "free men do free stuff" attitude is a cop out. Really? Then being your now illegal weapon to the range for all to see and hear, because free men do free stuff. It will become essentially useless for defense as well since if you use it for that you will then be removed from your family to prison, how will you protect them then? The time to fight back on these issues is before they become law. Laws matter.

Something else I've heard stated is that there would be an insurrection. Over a 10rd mag limit and AWB features? Then why didn't we do it the first time? I could possibly see it over a major "Mr and Mrs America, turn them all in" type ban, but they aren't that stupid. Given the opportunity they will divide us piece by piece, feature by feature. The time to fight is now.

Having said all this I am ashamed at how little I have done myself to fight, but at least I don't have the notion that it doesn't matter because I will do what I want and/or if they push to far we will rise up.

If this bill passes, better invest in velcro tie shoe manufacturers.

Wonder what the ROI on Anderson lowers would be?

Figured I would blow some skirts up on this one. :D

I was just thinking how this site would be without anyone posting threads about shooting AR's, working on one, or even posting one for sale? Think about it? I know guys that basically own nothing but AR's and AK's!
I started buying a little over 20 years ago. it's been hard to NOT be awash in ARs since the 94-04 ban expired. before that, century aks were running under 300 and still coming with 30rd mags.
they're a lot of years too late if they expect these things to go away. i already sold all of mine except for the NFA ones and i would have no idea where they ended up.

I've given out anderson lowers to people who don't even really like guns for presents.
there, now you're set to be a felon just like me, and that's all it takes. we can discuss if you like, but now you're the proud owner of a military style assault weapon.
one very anti-govt season, I gathered up almost everything except a barrel and gave it away to a gun forum by post # picking. cross posted it around to different places. I specifically made it clear that I would not be asking for any kind of ID, and that all I would need is for the winner to say they are not a prohibited person and shake my hand. technically everything was legal. but i know the ATF watched that forum, and i feel they know i had recently been through some serious legal garbage over guns.

andersons have more uses than just long term investments (wouldn't want to be "in the business..."). You can do other fun things for $50... but not as many that let you wave your middle finger right in the govts face if you're creative enough.

Well, lets see.....you can keep your stuff. Your Bear Creek Arsenal AR will increase in value to 7.3 million dollars and you can sell it and the magazines to retire on and make the buyer pay the FFL fee and still keep your favorite high end ar and mags for daily use. So......other than it further erodes the US Constitution and Bill of Rights, whats not to like?

It's a valid question. In fact it's a couple of valid questions but the bulk of the responses focus on one aspect. Most are stuck on what we who already have modern semi auto would do. Where we stand or where we cave. I'd like to focus on the basic home and personal protection angle for a minute.

Looking at protecting your castle and your skin, I think the gun industry and consumer would just "pivot" to whatever the new law leaves as viable options. Is a revolver and a shotgun "just as good" as a double stack nine and an AR? I dunno, but it's definitely viable. More to the point, if you can avoid walking into a fight with a felony on your belt you should at least consider it. If you are involved in a defensive shooting, using a contraband gun is likely going to cast a shadow on your version of the story.

I have been into shooting and owning guns since I was a teenager in the late 80s. I've got stuff ranging from the modern auto that might get banned to antique curious that no one cares about except for the most obscure interest. I know that whatever law gets passed I have something that will still be lethal and legal. As the OP points out, lots of owners only have or want AR or AK or the like. I have no idea if most of them will "replace" with Fudd guns.

Two last things. If we give an inch we lose a mile so don't "compromise" an inch. Second, and this is important. Dance like no one is watching but post like it will be read into a deposition.

WTx did I just read?!?

My 3yo granddaughter is more coherent than that.

No... every one of us all across the country should post as though we have a dozen ARs each... overwhelm them with potential felons.

There is a proven model for that…. That’s what we do with speed limits in this country. And drunk/drug/distracted driving. Illegal, but “law abiding citizens” do it constantly.
Occasionally someone gets dinged for it, but percentage-wise…. doesn‘t put the slightest dent in the scofflaw‘s behavior.
That's not very comparable since I don't really care that much about a speeding fine but 10 years in prison is a bit of a deal breaker.
