We have an above-ground pool (22x54). The ground is kinda sorta level except in one spot, which is noticeably lower, causing the water to go just about to the top. I want to level it more.

Stupid question time: what's the best way? Should I add dirt to that low spot, or grade everything to the lowest point?

Are you planning on taking pool back down each year? Reason I ask is you could fill it and compact it and will work for while but may settle some over time and need a little more dirt but it would be a couple year process depending how much you have to fill and can compact it now. The thinner layers you can fill and compact it the better. Fill inch or two and compact with out any grass or sod in it. Sand will work to fill but if it is under the edge of the pool and you have much to fill it may keep crawling and not compact so probably not a good option for around edges. Best way would be excavate all to virgin undisturbed dirt below topsoil or grass but probably over kill for a pool and costly if you do not have the equipment.

I would not take it down, but rather 'un-do' the posts so it lays flattish in place and cover it with a tarp for the winter.
