Well, I guess God decided to put another one in my way.

Friday afternoon, Kelie nearly hit this little girl on #8 on the stretch between US 52 and The Gun Store and lured her into the truck with leftover food. The dog walked out into the road and she had to lock the brakes to keep from hitting her.

She was scared...which passed quickly...and she was very hungry. She's had pups recently. Appears to be a healthy weight, but her nails are long.

She's fairly small as Pitbulls go, but not quite "Pocket Pittie" size.

Wearing a pink collar.

Once she realized that we weren't going to hurt her, she proved to be an absolute sweetheart. She loves everybody at the first hello, and shows no sign of active abuse from male or female. If I sit in a chair, she will literally try to crawl into my lap.

She's an affection/attention seeker, and any touch or contact immediately sends her tail into wigglebutt drive.

I had a response on my facebook post in DC Lost and Found pets from a girl who said that she saw her the day before in the same area, so it's possible that she lives somewhere close by...but I have doubts. Dogs that are just on walkabout don't tend to stay in the same area for long. Dogs that are dumped do...waiting for the jerk who dumped them to come back for them. And...as I said...she was ravenous.

So, on the off chance that anybody recognizes this little doll...

I’m figuring you’ve probably got yourself a new family member, there.👍
The last thing I need here is another dog, but you may be right. I won't turn her over to animal control and I won't release her to anybody who can't answer the identifying questions about her collar and her specific markings.

I don't dare utter: "No more dogs" because God hears me...chuckles...and whispers: "It ain't up to you, Bubba."

So far, she's pretty low maintenance. She holds her water and her mud, waiting to go out to relieve herself, and is quiet and non-destructive in her downstairs area. She's a little nervous with the others when they come to yap at her en masse...a little less so when it's only one or two...but she hasn't been outwardly aggressive. That's to be expected, and I hope she'll soon calm down completely with them. Until then, I'll keep her separated from the pack and watch closely.

I'll hold onto the hope that her people will claim her, and that there will be a joyous reunion when they come for her. In the meantime, she's safe and warm and well treated. If that works out to be a permanent arrangement, I guess I'll just roll with it.

Hope you find her people but it sounds like she’s in good hands if you don’t. Looks like a real sweet heart.

Good on you. I’ve said the “no more dogs” thing myself and always have to eat those words.

So did she find her owners or are you her new Dad?
Nobody stepped up. I've fulfilled the legal requirements, but I haven't had her scanned for a chip yet. There haven't been any lost dog flyers or posters for her. Nobody is looking for her.

If there is a chip...which I strongly doubt...will I return her, knowing what I know?

Nope. She was bred and discarded once she weaned her pups...probably without so much as a backward glance. Whoever they are, they don't deserve her. She's doing well, and I don't see a need to turn her world upside down again. As far as she's concerned, she's home.

I still try to tell myself this dumping doesn't happen anymore, but out here in the country it sure seems to.

This time last year I had 5 pups arrive on my property, near the Rowan/Davidson line, one even with a collar. 2 months of putting up Found posters and calling around for 50 mile radius, nothing.

Quite fortunate she ran into you tho.
