Tyrin to figure my way thru the maze of available light options for a handgun. This will be my first. Recently picked up a CZ P-09 for the night stand. We live on a small "hobby farm" in a fairly rural area with the associated night bumps so I'm thinkin I might like a lil more beam than flood.
Is 30ish yards too much to ask w/o a second mortgage?
Also, it seems that a lot of these mounted lights stick out from under the muzzle a good bit. My analicity dislikes that. But 'sides that izzit a problem or feature? Do any of the smaller/shorter lights have a decent output? I've got 2.75" of real estate under the barrel. Not too worried about holster options.
No real set budget but prefer function over bling. Don't care about a laser or strobes (should I?).
Just want a good light fer a fat old man checkin out his place in the dark. 👨‍🦳
Lookin for some pointers from the experienced cause these things are way more than I was expecting.
Must be somethin "special" ta makin that weapon mount housing.. 🥴 😁
Thanks in advance for any useful input or wisecracks.

there are many good options. Ive been very happy with the TLR-1 over the years. However nowadays I mostly use the TLR-7A which has a lower 500 lumen output but the switch system is most excellent. If you think the light will be needed for outdoor distances beyond 20 yards the TLR-7A won’t provide enough throw. These are just 2 good options but there are so many to pick from. Surefire, modlight, etc.

I EDC an O light S2R. I like the Olights for most purposes but I do not trust them for a WML. My O lights have occasionally acted weird and needed to be reset.

Thanks for responding..
I've got a handheld Olight r 2 that hang around the hunt truck and various packs. They've been ok for the most part but have crapped out at a coupla inopportune moments.
I've been reading up on WML's since. I'd like to get something reasonable w/o gettin all "blingy" with it.
Tentatively settled on a TLR-1 HL and see how that works out. Then mebbe a TLR-7 later if the "stick out"
exceeds what my anal retention can bear.. 😮‍💨 😆

Tlr1-HL is really hard to beat at 1000lm and ~20,000 candela. I've had a few that have always been fantastic.

A good handheld will go a long way as well.

If you're pockets are a little deeper and you really want extreme throw, the new Surefire extreme or whatever they're calling them have increased candela, as does the Modlight pl350.

I don't think I'm tacticool enough ta play with the Surefires just yet. Mebbe later if this turns out to be somethin I wanna "do right".
My goal is to have a sufficiently bright, beam-ish light that's attached to the gun so it doesn't get "borrowed" for some other duty then "misplaced" like things tend ta do the older I get. My bump-in-the-night concerns are mainly outdoors on our lil 7ac homestead. So I'm thinking some projection would be a good thing..

@Bloodyhands - PM inbound..
