@Michael458 first, many thanks for you efforts in load development and testing and especially for sharing with the group on our visit.

After that talk you offered to share load data for the Lehigh Extreme Penetrator. I am definitely going to try them out in 9mm.
Thanks!

Most certainly Catfish......... Thank you for the kind words........

I don't test actual pressures in 9mm, so you guys can use this at your own risk, same as I do. These loads seem just dandy in my guns, brass looks fine, guns work fine, zero issues with anything I have tried them in.

90 Lehigh Extreme Defense 7.5/V 3N37
5" Kimber 1911 1466 fps
4" Browning Hi Power 1422 fps
3" S&W Shield 1295 fps
7.5" PSA 1605 fps

115 Lehigh Extreme Penetrator 5/Bullseye
5" Kimber 1911 1250 fps
4" Browning Hi Power 1200 fps
3" S&W Shield 1096 fps
7.5" PSA 1362 fps

I have been working recently with two of the Lehigh Extreme Penetrators. I know these bullets, and how the work, and why, because JD Jones and I were working with them back in 2005-2006 in .500 caliber rifles. At that
time the bullets JD and I were working with had smaller, less radical cuts than what is now in the newer Lehigh design. Below is the original bullet that JD and I were working with

There are two concepts to the bullet design. First they are designed to move fluid, more or less similar to how a boat propeller works, moving fluid away from center. The more velocity you have, the more violent that movement is. The second concept is dealing with surface contact area up front. This is like a Flat Meplat bullet, only it is not flat, but the test medium, which is aqueous does not know that. The bullet has conned the medium into believing it is a much bigger bullet than it actually is because of the larger contact surface. It acts like a Cup Point Solid, similar to what we use in some big bore rifles with increased contact area up front.

I hate Lehigh, and would love to tell you these bullets are shit, but that is just not the case, they have done a really good job with this bullet, and it does indeed work as designed. But do keep in mind, this originated with JD Jones, Lehigh knew shit about about bullets until JD got involved..........But, whether Lehigh or JD, does not matter, this bullet does what is intended.........

If you look at the two, the 90 vs the 115, they are different designs. The 90 is designed to move more fluid, destroy more medium and the 115 is designed to penetrate deeper, while still doing a good job of destroying medium, not as much destruction as the 90 however.

Do remember, this is not ballistic gel, this is my wet print medium, and far denser and tougher than ballistic gel. Conventional expanding bullets will only penetrate 3-6 inches in this test medium. But, ballistic gel will also show you how these bullets work as they penetrate, so a very good demonstration can be viewed by watching video of these in BG.............

Another extreme 9mm bullet that one can put in their tool box is the 90 Raptor from Cutting Edge Bullets.

One of the new loads I run it with is 7.5/V 3N37. I first was using Bullseye, but recently fount V 3N37 not quite as volatile as the Bullseye load, and excellent velocity.

Being a Raptor, this handgun bullet has 4 blades that shear at 1.5-2 inches of penetration, these blades slice and dice and for 3-4 inches of penetration work rather close to the remaining center bullet, or solid, which continues
to penetrate straight after shear. This causes "extreme" amount of trauma. I tested in 2016 and at that time running some lower velocity. This bullet causes more trauma and destruction of medium than the Lehigh's. But it was designed to do so as well.

The 90 Raptor and 7.5/V 3N37

In the video above, at the 24 second mark you will see a friend of mine, Beau Barnes, he is shooting his 458 B&M and a 250 Raptor on the zebra......... Good stuff, zebra are very notoriously tough to put in the dirt.....

Just FYI..........

I see Midway sells Underwood ammo loaded with the Lehigh projectiles. Do you have any experience with these?

Here's a video comparing Underwood ED to some more traditional soft point rounds. The Extreme Defender rounds did a LOT more damage and penetrated a lot LESS than the other ammo. I'm warming up to these...
