FAQ
Where do I put my rifle and equipment when I arrive? Please use the back tables and benches for your rifles and equipment. Place your your rifles with the muzzles facing AWAY from the benches. Do not put any rifle forward of the red line or on a shooting bench without specific instructions from the Match Director or Stage Director.
Are their restrooms? Yes, there are two restrooms on site with running water.
Is food available? No, bring lunch and drinks for yourself. Gas station/convenience store is nearby in Ferguson. You'll pass that store on the way in. Picnic tables and shade available at the range.
Cash or check? Cash preferred, checks accepted. Please register and pay at the office when you arrive. Registration closes at 9:10 AM.
Can I use my bench rest equipment such as mechanical front and rear rests? No you cannot, only bipods and bags may be used.
Can I use my bench rest rifle? Sure, as long as you stay at or under .300 Win Mag power factor and at or under 3,150 fps muzzle velocity
Do I need a range finder? No, we'll range all targets and post the ranges on the course of fire sheets but feel free to do your own ranging if you like. Trust but verify if you will.
How long will it take? Expect a full day of shooting with an aim to wrap up by 4:00 PM on Saturday
How many times will I get to shoot? Expect at least three stages with the possibility, time permitting, of a fun shoot at the end of the match.
What is your scoring methodology? First hits matter in real life. Most targets during a stage will score based on descending order of points 100 for first hit, 90 for second and so on.
Should I bring my spotting scope? Not required but if you have one please bring one. We welcome glass and may need it for the stages?
Can I volunteer? Yes please. Send separate email to me.
What kind of targets will you have? AR500 steel plates of varying size and shapes. All targets will be hung from t post or swinging from chains.
Do I have to stay the whole time? No, you can leave between stages or leave early if you like; however, you must complete all courses of fire to win.
Do I need a custom gun or fancy and expensive equipment? No, there are many, many factory type rifles that when properly equipped with quality optics and fed quality factory ammo or hand loads, that will do just fine. EG: Remington 700 in .308, .30-06, .300 Win Mag, 6.5X47, .260 Remington, 6.5 Creedmor, 6.5 Grendel, the list goes on. The Ruger Precision Rifle is another great gun straight out of the box. Don't forget an optic that is of quality and one that can handle 1000 plus yards of hold or adjustment. All you need is a rifle with a scope, bipod, rear bag and ammunition + glasses and hearing protection and a positive attitude.
Do I need to be an expert shooter or have a lot of experience? No, but for the safety of everyone involved, some long range shooting experience is preferred. Remember, this is a competition (a friendly one but still) and it is not the best opportunity to try your hand at long range shooting for the first time.
