Looking for an ideal 9mm home defense pistol

I really should get a good tactical flashlight or two. I keep lights on all of my convenient-to-access firearms, but everything is in a safe because I don't want a kid having easy access.
100% agree. there are a lot of options out there these days. You could get a weapon mounted or just a hand held administrative light. Either way, take it to the range with you to get used to having an administrative light in your non dominate hand or engaging the weapon mounted light to get used to the controls. there is an art/method to using a weapons light effectively.

Just as a quick shill, @Apex Defense Group has a solid solo cqb class, with a lowlight portion where they incorporate some force on force.

The class was a blast, and has really *illuminated* the way i think about low light šŸ˜

Glock or glock-like full size pistol with a light and optic if you prefer them. Should be doable for well under a grand.

Don't waste your money on a bedside gun. Save it to waste on fun CZ range guns. Or ammo.

Did playing with plastic toys really brighten up your day?

I don't think you can flex on the poors without a Surefire. I wasn't certain whether I'd go for a red dot until I saw PSA had the SCS MP2 for $280. BattleHawk had the firearm for just under $800 (+tax, +shipping, +$30 transfer at Young Guns Inc).

I had to just swap my existing Streamlight over to this because I couldn't justify an additional purchase on top of everything else.

Planning to shoot it after work tomorrow at Wake training center since it's reopening after the yearly cleaning.

Extar EP9. Join FPC and put a brace on it. Short enough to clear the house with if necessary. Why would you choose pistol accuracy/controllability over something like this if you had a choice? This is my HD/bedside gun running the stock brace that came on it, an always on red dot with auto brightness and a WML.

Personally Iā€™d prefer a suppressed pistol for home defense. Have you thought about a Maxim 9?

Yeah, I've still failed to make a decision on a proper PCC/SMG style firearm. Almost grabbed one several times but just got another pistol instead.

Not to derail the thread, but my understanding is that you're not covered as a member of FPC/GOA/etc. unless you're part of the Fifth Circuit's jurisdiction. I'm a member of multiple, but I'm not going to risk breaking laws (that said, I'll SBR whatever I end up getting to put a real brace on it anyway).

I was under the understanding that it extended to all members? am I wrong?

I always like a carbine over a pistol, but inside a house solo I have zero clue which is better. Do the barrel lengths on a carbine hinder some things? Seems a pistol in small places may not be all bad. Weā€™re not clearing rooms in Iraq. What do the experienced people say? My simpleton opinion is both. One for inside and one for noises on the property. But I am a virgin.

Clint Smith can pop your cherry.

A proper handgun stance is similar to holding a carbine... without the the leverage, stability, accuracy, and lethality of the carbine/shotgun.

tl;dr Pistols for the street, long guns for the castle.

There was nothing indicating that the ruling was limited to FPC or Maxim Defense customers residing in an area covered by the Fifth Circuit's jurisdiction. Consequently, it should apply to ALL FPC members and Maxim Defense customers, regardless of where they reside.

It does. The original ruling was a little confusing in that regard, so FPC filed a motion requesting clarification. The judge clarified to state all members covered.
Attached is the court document for those that want to read it.
Similarly, SAF requested clarification on the injunction they recieved also. SAF claims that the judge also clarified to include all SAF members. I havent been able to locate this clarification, but also havent really tried too hard to find it, either

Then I ought to be covered, thanks.

I shot the Smith & Wesson today. It's a great shooter!

204 rounds through it with zero issues.

I tried Blazer and Federal 115 grain, Magtech 124 grain, and Gold Dot 124 +P.

The Holosun SCS MP2 is really solid. Sits low and (barely) cowitnesses with the stock sights. I'm using it with the circle only because dots splash out all crazy with my astigmatism. It's a great option that I never knew I had with pistols (my rifles all use prisms because of my eyes and red dots).

Ok, this may be controversial but I have a full-size PSA Dagger as my bedside gun. I've thrown enough rounds through it (including HPs) and haven't had any issues with it. The long grip makes the recoil almost non-existent, and it's well priced so you can get a good optic and light without breaking the bank. I also have a G19 right beside it in case I want the Glock name at that moment.

I also have a p01 as a bed side gun.

I guess my question is what is the need to replace it? I am going to assume OP is proficient with it...why not add some some night sights as a backup for the streamlight, and maybe add some trigger work, or something along those lines? Would be a cheaper option than another gun.
Then buy some more mags, and some more home defense ammo.

I wanted a red dot without screwing up the P-01.
Unless you want it to overhang you are stuck to K series footprint. P01 isn't really a good base for a red dot for sure.

I guess my question is what is the need to replace it?
Because he wanted THE BEST POLYMER PISTOL on the market.

No I'm not bias stop asking

Lol... for years my nightstand gun was a hi-point .45, with a handheld light. Reliable, accurate, 10+1 and a heck of an impact weapon if needed. If it got taken as evidence I doubt they could hurt it.

Took out numerous possums and raccoons trying to get in the chicken coop at night; I practiced beforehand and worked it as needed.

These days it's my shield .40 with night sights and handheld light.

I upgraded from 9mm when I plugged a possum center of the chest and he hisses and waddled 20 yards back across the yard before I popped him in the noggin. If a 10 pound possum shook off a 115 gr hp, I didn't want to see how your average meth head would react.

Just me; ymmv

9mm is plenty of power....
Remember when 8 FBI agents armed with 9mm, .38, and 12 gauge got BTFO by a single gunman with a Mini-14?

Remember when the LAPD armed with 9mm & 12 gauge got BTFO by a couple guys with modified carbines?

Remember when nearly all modern police have patrol carbines in their car for when the SHTF?

Remember when you can build a good AR-15 for less than a new Glock and M193 will outperform any service caliber JHP?

Remember when the US said the 1911A1 was junk for a primary weapon in a war zone and developed the M1 Carbine?

Remember how one crazed tranny with a glowing Daniel Defense rifle actively killed elementary students being outnumbered 150-1 for an hour because of chicken-poop officers were scared of suppression fire?

Pepperidge Farm remembers.
