I have a 5 shot Smith. The model escapes me at the moment, but it's the really light one. It's made from some alien aircraft metal or something.

When I move the gun, whether it's riding in my pocket or I'm moving it from the glove box to the safe, etc., I can hear the rounds rattling around inside the cylinder.

I'm no gun surgeon, but should they be so loose in the cylinder that I can hear them rattle when the gun is jostled? I'm a bit hesitant to squeeze the trigger because of it.

I haven't taken the ammo out and tried something different, yet. The pistol has pretty much sat in one of two locations since I've gotten it and I'm just now thinking to post up about it.

That‘s some other metal clanking when you walk. 😂

Mine does too, it's all back and forth movement. If there was no clearance it wouldn't be able to turn, right?

You're saying you think the ammo is moving towards the barrel, then away from the barrel, and the rims of the rounds are beating the face of the cylinder and making the rattling sound vs the diameter of each bore being slightly larger than the diameter of the ammo and allowing the movement?

Yea.

My revolvers all rattle just a little when loaded. The rounds headspace on the rim, and back up against the frame when fired. There has to be some clearance for the cylinder to turn, and before they're fired, there's also some play between the cylinder walls.

As long as its ammo made in the same caliber as your handgun, I say you're good to go.

You're good, my wife's lady smith has the same rattle.
So does the model 31 I keep in the drawer in the living room. And the poly protector I keep in the other drawer in the living room.

I measure that gap, and leave my primers that much "proud" of the case when I'm loading.

It eliminates the rattle. When the first round goes off, the recoil seats the remaining primers, so the cylinder turns easily.

Doing it this way, I have to carry the gun cocked, but it is much quieter in my pocket.

Who are you in real life?

Is it an Airweight 442? Or 642?

I have a Ruger LCR 38spec and if you give it a shake it rattles some. Just never heard it or anyone mentioning it until now. LOL

I think I have it figured out.

It rattles, but really no more than what I consider normal, but it lives inside a kydex pocket holster and that is amplifying the dog poop out of it.

Thanks for aaall the help.

Loctite 640.

Just sayin'

Seems to me that dog poop should muffle that sound. 🤓

Just picked up my 442 and it does the same, bullets rattle while in the cylinder front-to-back. From what I’ve read it seems to be normal and if it functions tomorrow when I shoot it, won’t worry me

It’s normal. Some have a little more play than others. Shoot it a bunch without cleaning and the carbon build up will make them tighter

Dadgumit! I was gonna say that Ruger Revolvers don't rattle just to git on the nerves of them south&west fellers!

And eventually you’ll be able to save a ton on ammo…when you can load it with 22lr. 🤪

It's the mixer feature, like a paint can. You're supposed to shake the gun for 30sec. before use to make sure the power hasn't settled. Makes for a more consistent ignition.

Why not just get a set of snakeskin grips? Then, "That's not a bug; that's a feature!" applies. :)
