Lt Governor candidate “defends himself” from home invasion

Good thing they didn't open the door since he said he loaded the shotgun afterwards. You might want to make sure it's loaded when you first pick it up?

Should've fired 2 blasts like Uncle Joe directed us all to, after buying a shotgun

But here's the deal:

"
The experience caused Thomas to question the Castle Doctrine, “which would have given me the ability to shoot through that door and kill someone unnecessarily.”

There was no need to shoot a man for just for asking for a phone from outside a door, Thomas said.

“I felt like I would have needed to know there was a threat,” he said, “and him coming through that door would have been the threat that I needed.”

He speculated the men were squatting in the townhome because he does not often stay there. He theorized that the first-floor tenant may have let them in.

But Thomas said he might have fired if the incident happened at his home in Raeford, because there would be no reasonable reason for anyone else to be in his residence."

Uh yeah, bro. you better study up on justifiable homicide and castle doctrine because that's not how any of this works.

The video is on his Facebook page. I can’t get it to link here however

that just sounds fishy to me.

maybe not, but...just odd.

The whole story sounds Jussie to me

Thank you for saying that ... the photo that shows “scratches” on the interior door just does not set right with me either. That type door/lock would be a mini-flathead screwdriver key type or such (I’ve actually twisted a locked interior doorknob in my house hard enough to pop it open with no problem ... not a bunch of scratches like pictured. Something just doesn’t ring right with me either.

"Look at me! I'm PRO 2A and I made that "CLICK CLACK" sound just like Uncle Joe said I should and it worked! Now, that I've established my 2A bona fides...let me be the voice of reason and tell you why Castle Doctrine is BAD!"

"North Carolina’s “Castle Doctrine” law gives people leeway to use deadly force against intruders without fear of being prosecuted.

The experience caused Thomas to question the Castle Doctrine, “which would have given me the ability to shoot through that door and kill someone unnecessarily.”

Aaaaand, therein lies the rub.

So he entered his residence when he already thought intruders were inside. He heard them upstairs and he made it to the second floor without encountering anyone but the third floor was vacant so what would intruders be doing spending a lot of time up there? His bedroom door lock is practically nonexistant but they had to pry the door open to get in earlier? The intruders knock and ask for their phone back? And somehow through all of this, he has time to set up his phone to video record, get a shotgun, load it, and reset for a second video before the perps knock on his door instead of kicking his weak interior door in?

This story is complete crap.

Jussie wannabe, cause it worked for him. No, wait...

They knocked and had a conversation?? If they pried the door, why is the "damage" a foot above the latch? They ransacked the room, but didn't find the shotgun that was there? I'd like to see the official records on the call and response time.

Again, the evidence isn't consistent with the story. They need to watch some more CSI. Wonder if the "bad guys" were Nigerian?

The gun barrel drops and there is a loud “click-clack-clack!”
Thomas had worked the pump-action on the gun to make a noise to warn the men he had a weapon.

The intruders wanted the stun gun back not a phone.
This man is confused about the Castle Doctrine you can't shoot through the door, you are safe and sound locked inside your bedroom waiting for police, i
f they kicked that door open and you had a threat to your life that is grounds to defend yourself.

He's lucky they weren't armed. It took talking to them through the door, racking the slide and then he goes to the dresser that had been ransacked to get 1 shell? He's an idiot. Should have had a pistol on him to begin with.

"It sounds like there are at least two people talking outside the door. They continue to talk and Thomas talks over them.

“Keep moving,” he says. “Keep moving.”

Thomas tells the men that he’s recording and he again warns them.

“If you open this door,” he says, “there’s going to be some problems.”

There are a few thumps, then silence.

The video next shows Thomas as he walks to the bureau, opens a drawer, retrieves a shotgun shell and loads it into the gun. The video ends a few seconds later."

If someone can please post the video too. It’s on the guys Facebook page I just can not get it to load up here.

Before we had Castle Doctrine, it was legal in NC to use deadly force to keep someone from forcibly entering your home. Once they were in your home, things got a lot dicier as to what was legal self defense and what wasn’t. Castle Doctrine rightly took the ambiguity out of it. This guy is a moron. Time will tell on how many levels.

Not quite. He said, "if you open this doe, man".... Gotta give it the correct Ebonics inflection this winner of a Lt candidate deserves.

Who sets up their phone camera and perfectly records their “defense” of themselves where the ppl are never seen and yet he thinks of all of this and remains calm cool and collective. I call bullshit

If he ever actually feared for his life or his family's life ,he would not question the Castle Doctrine.

For me I would shoot only if necessary anyway. We should have the right to use force in your own home for sure ,if force is necessary.

IF ... I were in my home and to the point to defend myself with a 12ga (which to me is likely a DRT shot more than any handgun) I do not want anything recording me or what I might say in that situation. The only description I want is what I give to the LEOs and DA after I speak with my attorney. I am not sure what words I’d use or what so I don’t want anything else that can be turned and twisted by an attorney looking for a way to somehow bring fault to me. I don’t even really want the dispatcher at 911 to possibly hear me scream something in the heat of the moment. Your bullshit call to me is on the money.

Click-Clack-Clack? And he returned one round to deal with multiple intruders? Who is he, Barney Fife?

Perhaps his hidden agenda is to get rid of the Castle Doctrine if he is successful in his election bid?

That story is such a crock of $h!+ it’s not even funny. I hope he gets roasted on social media and has his campaign ruined. Guy sounds like a huge tool.
