Shot a local 3 gun match with my 15-22 a few weeks back. Ran 3 stages just fine. On the 4th stage it was hitting @6 or more inches high at @50-60 yards and would fire 2-3 rounds and then jam. Specifically, the round from the mag showed a dent and the bullet was canted. Looks like the bullet almost made it to the chamber and then the bolt closed on the case. I had cleaned it and oiled it the night before. Same ammo on all stages. Ammo was from the Federal Black Bulk pack. I was bracing against a barricade.
I took the rifle out to my local club last week to try and duplicate the malfunction. Seemed to be hitting @ where I was aiming. I tried bracing against a post, pushing the mag against the post, holding it very loosely, holding it sideways, and rapid firing it. Using same ammo and mags. Couldn't duplicate the malfunction. The only thing a friend of mine could think of was 4 or 5 bad rounds of ammo that did cycle the bolt hard enough. However, I just saw the "renewed" safety alert from S&W. I wondered if the bolt issue that would allow the gun to fire multiple rounds, could instead cause the malfunctions that I saw?
Thoughts?
I haven't checked my bolt yet, as I'm trying to get over my irritation that a gun that I use for matches needs a tool from S&W to be safety checked. Get it to together people.

P.S. Yes, I've already started shopping for a 10/22 to possibly replace it, but I do love that little rifle.
