Mandalorian Season 2 Thread ***Spoilers May Be Inside!

Anybody else notice the owl when Mando walked out into the woods looking for Ahsoka?

That's some deep cut fan stuff

To me the second episode was a side story with a lot of subtle setup. It showed the state of the Star Wars Universe at this time. Dave Filoni and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as the X wing pilots patrolling the outer territories for Imperial holdouts. It is setting up the idea of Imperials who will become the New Order. The world of Tatooine even more remote than in Lukes time there. This is how Boba Fett hid all those years and how Bo Katan, Ahsoka Tano and Rex can all be hiding in this timeline. I agree with @B00ger that not every episode can have a huge revel that jumps the plot forward. Some have to just move the plot along at a slower pace. This reminded me of the Village Episode from season 1.

There was also a lot of fan service. The Dr. Mandible ant guy is a reference to an off canon monster called a Killk. They are of course playing Sabacc which the Amy Sadaris character wins with the Idiots Array which is link to Lando. To me it also alludes to the idea that Peli Motto was cheating. The ice planet was a throw back to Hoth. The spider was also pulled out of Empire Strikes Back. It was draw by Ralph McQuarrie and was supposed to be used on Dagobah. It never made it onto film but below is a picture from the movies art archive. I would give this episode a 7. The season 2 premiere was a 9.

Did anyone else notice this in Episode 1 of season 2?

Anyone else notice this in the first episode?

Oh s***, I just realized that’s Boba’s armor...

I didn’t have a clue. But the wife spotted it and filled me in.

When Ashoka goes “I’ve seen what attachment can do to a fully trained Jedi Knight” I went “who is she talking ab- oh yeah...”

notice has she doesn’t reference *him* as a Jedi Master, interesting

Yup saw it immediately! Morai is a Convor and is bounded to Ahsoka because of the Daughter who transfer her “force essence” to Ahsoka as she was dying. She can be seen flying above Vader at the end of The Clone Wars. Some believe that Morai is "The Daughter" and she watches over Ahsoka.

Morai?" "She's an old friend. I owe her my life… -Ahsoka

I didn't get to watch it until tonight because I had family over who were not caught up. I have been avoiding all social media about it trying not to spoil it. A friend of mine texted me at 6:00 AM on Fri saying it is amazing. I asked have you watched the whole thing? He said no just the first 2 minutes. LOL 🤣

This might have been my favorite episode yet. It was hard not hearing Ahsoka's real voice but I got over it. So The Child's has a name! Grogu. We also learn who Moff Gideon might be working for. Admiral Thrawn which hypes up the chances that Ezra Bridges will make an appearance at some point. Dave Filoni is simply a walking Star Wars encyclopedia. Things like Morai, the weaving of The Clone Wars and Rebels into the story line was amazing. The samurai western in space theme was so prominent. The western isolated town with the martial arts duel in the middle of Japanese Water Garden. All of it was so updated Lucas which is really what Dave Filoni has become. The lightening of the episode against the vibrant color of Ahsoka and her signature white sabers was visually almost perfect.

I am going to have to watch it again tonight it was that good.

Still airing new episodes? Or has the season ended yet?
are used up my free Disney trial last season, so I only want to pay Disney for one month to watch it.

No but they are bringing in a fair amount of non-cannon stuff.

Like Michael Biehn who keeps getting killed by people he has no fight or quarrel with? lol They pulled hard from Tombstone on his last scene. Johnny Ringo got offed by the Mandalorian.

It was literally the kid who played Boba in episode III (the one where he watches his dad Jengo Fett get beheaded by ObiWan).

It is not the guy who played Boba. It is Temuera Morrison who played Jango Fett. He was the original Clone. His payment was an unaltered Clone he could raise as his child. This was Boba. Jango was not a Mandalorian but a gun for hire and bounty hunter who wore Mandalorian like armor. His armor is not Beskar it is some sort of steel alloy. #cosplay

Correct my if I'm wrong but wasn't that Temuera Morrison, the guy who played Jango Fett. Not the kid.

Edit: wsig beat me to it.

I think he may be talking about Daniel Logan, not him either but I didn't know until I looked him up just now that he also did the voice of Boba in the Clone Wars series

Sorry, nerds--I got my lines crossed. :p

Too much reading comprehension for me to get it right!

I cannot say it enough times. Star Wars is a Samurai Western set in space.
100%, Lucas was heavily inspired by Japanese/Samurai culture. I’m loving how Filoni’s taking it back to its roots

Did anyone else notice that Ahsoka used 2 different fighting styles? She fought with different styles in the Clone Wars and Rebels Series. As Padawan most start out with style III which is defensive form often used by Obi-Wan after Qui-Gon's death. Most of the time she used two other forms Ataru Form IV and Shien / Djem So Form V. I always think of her as a reverse grip Shien fighter although she is know to fight in both IV and V. This was on display in the Episode "The Jedi".

She used form IV known as Ataru in the opening scenes. This is the form used by Yoda. Tons of acrobatics and spinning moves. Think his duel with Darth Sideous. It was also used in the Duel of the Fates by Qui-Gon Jinn and a Young Obi-wan. It seemed odd considering it is not usually used against those with blasters. It relies on acrobats and aggressive movement in a saber duel. I expected her to use her reverse grip form of Shien form V. I always considered it her signature style. I was surprised when I watch it again and it was absent in the opening scene. Shien is often what is used against multiple enemies with blasters. I wonder why Flioni went this route?

Against the Magistrate she switched to Form V or Shien / Djem So. A form often associated with Anakin/Vader. You can see her using the reverse Shien grip in the pic above. It is a defensive posture which allows one to counter attack. She often uses it to deflect blaster fire in the Clone Wars and Rebels series. Here she used it to deflect the aggressive attacking style of magistrate with her Beskar Spear. Djem So is an attacking form used to over power and opponent which in the end is exactly what she does to the magistrate.

The more I watch parts of this episode the more I am impressed. #morefanservice

Good write up, loved reading it

Also the Vanity Fair Article

Something Filoni says at the end is very interesting.

That quest, we learn, is a search for the villain Grand Admiral Thrawn. The last time fans saw Ahsoka was this spring's finale of The Clone Wars, but in the actual Star Wars chronology, the last time we saw her was at the end of Rebels, venturing off with Sabine Wren to find Ezra Bridger, who vanished along with Thrawn. Where does that scene fit in with where we find her in The Mandalorian?

Filoni: Right. But no, it's an interesting one… That's not necessarily chronological. I think the thing that people will most not understand is they want to go in a linear fashion, but as I learned as a kid, nothing in Star Wars really works in a linear fashion. You do [Episodes] Four, Five and Six and then One, Two, and Three. So in the vein of that history, when you look at the epilogue of Rebels you don't really know how much time has passed. So, it's possible that the story I'm telling in The Mandalorian actually takes place prior to that. Possible. I'm saying it's possible.

Yeah...I mean...normally I am all "Lets geek out!" but...even on that...I was like...whaaa?
Let’s not gatekeep our love for Star Wars 😎

Ahsoka’s fighting styles are as iconic and important to her character as her duel lightsabers. You can get unbelievably in depth and detailed into just the lore of fighting in Star Wars and there’s a lot of similarities to Star Wars fighting style and HEMA (Historic European Martial Arts, the study and practice of swordsmanship) as well as Japanese fighting styles.

Keep em comin’ @wvsig, loved the write-ups

I’m trying to think of a way to type out the noise a lightsaber makes. Guns go “pew pew”, lightsabers go... wwwouuaahhhh” ???
