Marlin 1894 COWBOY LIMITED ???

I was giving my 1894 an annual cleaning the other day. Was remembering how it worked so good back when it was my best cowboy lever. Then I noticed the octagon barrel was marked with "1894 COWBOY LIMITED 1894CB" which looked very much like the barrel markings on my CENTURY LIMITED 1894CLTD". I didn't remember its price being like the Century. I didn't remember it being any kind of higher priced deal. So I figured to solve the riddle with the handy fat book, the bluebook of gun values.....

Turns out the 2020 edition has no listing at all for COWBOY LIMITED. COWBOY yes, but not COWBOY LIMITED.

HOO HAHAH that means the sucker is lots more valuable, right..... lol.... I should be so lucky.

on the other hand, does anyone know the details about the sucker. It looks a lot like the one in the photo.....

They were aimed at the SASS market. Some of the Cowboy Ltd models were very limited. Like only 500 guns. Can’t tell you more off the top of my head.

Never saw mention of the Cowboy Limited being limited numbers, but they advertised the Century Limited as being limited to 2000 iirc.
I never saw either one in a gun store in fact. Got my two from guys at work who had ffls.

I had all that data wrote down once but have no idea what I did with it. Cowboy Limited is the 1894CB, the Century Limited is the 1894CLTD. I have the 1894CB but I have a custom barrel on mine now. I had a squib and missed it, bulged my CB barrel. I picked up a Century Limited barrel as the replacement barrel but decided against installing it. I still have the CLTD barrel.

Mine is an "03" which should be 1997.


I actually like it better without all the gibberish on the barrel.

Dumbest thing they did was start putting the serial number on the sideplate.

Will you share info on who did your barrel? I need to replace one and John Taylor is the best option I’ve found so far.
