Massad Ayoob: Three reasons why you need to carry extra ammo and magazines

Never been in a gunfight. But I have seen mags drop free while shooting. I've also seen a baseplate get stripped off from crashing into a barricade when running for cover. Murphy is a M!@#$er

To bring it to the ultimate level would you not just carry a backup gun? If the magazine could fail then so could the firing pin, or sight or disconnector...
He does however, make a compelling argument for bayonets because if your rifle goes down at least you have a spear!

At some point a 'reasonableness' standard needs to be applied: at what point is enough, enough? Two mags? Three? Everyone needs to examine their own risk, and it might change from day to day.

In Durham I am OK with a single pistol, no extra mags. Go to Raleigh, I might take three mags. Fayetteville? Three guns, 12 mags, and a mortar.

Since when did durham get off the list? I earned my combat action ribbon there.

If so, for me, it would be a revolver.

I live in Fayetteville. I carry 35 rounds on a daily. It's not so bad

This is only the first of his "reinventing myself for a new age" videos. The program consists of a trifecta ultimately labeled "The mƩnage Ơ trois du combat".

In the second video he covers the Saturday Night Live derived Samuri Chief "Shotokan Punch Stance".

In the third video, yet to be released, he'll discuss de-escalation training for use with the LGBTQ Community somewhat as follows......Firstly, assure two spare magazines are securely rooted between the top portion your butt cheeks for rapid off hand access and, on a hot day, slick insertion into the mag well. Secondly, assume the ridiculously named Shotokan Punch Stance with your weapon of choice. Thirdly, when confronted by a known or suspected LGBTQ assailant, quickly close your eyes, make a giant "O" with your mouth and rapidly and loudly huff air in and out of your mouth and waggle your toung.

It rained 9mm ammunition down the engineroom hatch of a boomer at the shipyard one day when I was standing under the hatch as a Ship's Force member came down the ladder.

The buttplate on his M9 did exactly that...came free and emptied the magazine in his holstered pistol.

It was interesting to watch him scour the entire area to find every last round, in addition to the buttplate, spring, and follower of his magazine! But find everything he did!

I never carry mags, no matter how I've tried they just don't fit my revolver :)

I wonder if, by boogie boys videoed logic, I should carry a half box of shells.....

Whats the TL;DW version?
1. You might be the exception to the rule and actually need more ammo
2. Mag failure
3. If it gets hands-on, the potential for the mag release to get pressed is higher
