Congratulations to @Eric F and @#1gohunt as they were our Open and Base class winners from April. @Eric F was picked out of a hat to pick this months target and he will post that along with scoring hopefully at some point tomorrow.
Let’s keep the great participation going. Can’t win it unless you try.

Reminder on what we are doing:

Open Class. This is for precision rifles and will be shot at the usual 50 yards.

- Base Class. This is for Rifles that cost under $600. This does not include scopes and can have upgraded triggers but has to be factory barrel.
This group will be shot at 25 yards. If your rifle falls into this category but you still want to shoot at 50 you will receive an extra bonus points which will be determined once target is presented.

Winner of both classes will be named and we will draw from a hat to see whom will pick our next target.

This is all for fun but we also understand that it is hard to go up against precision rigs shooting top shelf ammo when you are not doing the same. We want everyone to have fun and also have a chance to pick a target.
This is new so be patient with me as we may need to adjust on the fly as I am sure I left details out.

For any new shooter who want to join.
Standard CFF Monthly Rimfire Benchrest Challenge Rules
- Target size: standard 8 1/2 X 11 paper
- Target distance: 50 yards for precision rifles and 25 yards for rifles under $600.
- Any position you like.
- Front rests, bipods, front/rear bags, bunny ears.... all are ok
- No full length rifle mechanical rail/sled type rests allowed
- Iron sights or any optics allowed
- All done on the honor system. Shoot it, score it, post it.
- winner chooses the target and challenge for following month
- post copy of target and pictures of your rifle setup and ammo used

Here we go, the Fly Shoot Target is ready and waiting below:

Print as a PDF. Comes from Accurate Shooter Website, downlodable targets.
Your printer may cut off the top and right side. That's OK. The targets will still be the correct size.

SCORING:

10 points - hit the fly head, body or wings (not just legs) 10 flies to hit. For reference the widest part of the wings is .5 inches

10 points hit inner circle of yellow targets. 3 circles to hit. For reference it measures about .67 inches.

5 points for shots hitting the diamond around the fly (1.45 inches across) or the large yellow circle (1.77 inches across), if you miss the fly or inner circle in the middle, but hit the target. Does not have to be fully in the target.

10 point bonus for scoring points on all 13 targets.

Max score 130 + 10 bonus = 140

Bonus of 10 points for Base rifles shooting at 50 yd. ( 5 less than last month) You basically start with 10 points and add your score.

One Mulligan: Let's continue this option. If you totally miss a target and shoot a 14th shot you will get those points, but lose the bonus.

Tie breaker - Shots fully within the fly or center of the circle on the highest scoring targets that are tied up at the end of the month.

The scoring applies to both Base (25yd) and Precision (50 yd)

Please ask questions for clarification, if this is not clear.

Looks like we have a challenging target this month. Might be a good time to upgrade those scopes if you were struggling to see the clays. Good shooting everyone!

First few targets I shot with the Sightron a one eyed man was struggling to see the cross hairs. lol. They are extremely fine. After much adjusting they finally cleared somewhat. With this target we shall see. Might have to call Granny Clampett seems I remember she could shoot the wings off flies at quite a distance. 😂

I tried to open the attachment, but it just comes up blank on my ipad. Maybe @amnesia can fix it, like he fixed the blank screen this morning 🧐

Anyway,
I tried 11 different ammo selections through the CZ457 that I pulled out of a plain field stock, and installed into my MTR stock, which was missing the barrelled action it came with, now in a chassis.
Pictures show the rifle and its target. Those flatnose bullets do pretty well. Unfortunately, some Greensboro cops were on the 50 yard bay all day, with lots of 3-round bursts and mag dumps going on. They must get free ammo.
I only had the 25 yard range to test the ammo, so I used my Surefire suppressor for all groups. 10-round groups for all but one RWS Target Rifle group, marked as 5 rounds cause I have no more of it.
Of course, I had to shoot for score on one of my last targets before my HP ink vacuum drained dry.
The Cz cost me just under $600, scope was $500 and the stock was a take-off. Both the rifle and the scope perform way above their price point. I suspect this plain 457 will outshoot its MTR brother, given good ammo. It is much quieter than the MTR:cool:
The Surefire cost $500 and was in ATF hell for 1 year.
Wind was negligible, temp was 78F.
Cops were cops, annoying.

You need a pdf viewer on your ipad to see it. Like adobe acrobat or nitropdf

Be interesting to see what it can do at 50 yards. Have a few different ammo’s that it seems to like. Nice afternoon of shooting minus the noisy PO PO

Very nice groups. Looks like you had a good day, except for the noise. Why don't they run suppressors when they train. Good news on wait time for suppressors. I had one approved in 3 work days. Try out the new target, when you get out there again.

First attempt at the Flies. Wind was calm, temp was tolerable and my shooting was off a little. I shot this with SK Long Range Match. Score was 115 if I scored it correctly. Precision class with my Winchester 52C

Shot the fly target today. Bergara B14. Open class 50 yds. Lapua Pistol OSP ammo. If I scored it correctly, 135 score

So I have to ask. Do you still get the 10 point bonus if you miss a fly but hit the triangle the fly is in? I see you scored it that way. I did the same thing but didn't give myself the 10 point bonus.

Eric’s rules say 10 point bonus for scoring on all targets. So I think so but maybe I’m wrong. Post # 2 gives reference

I reread it a couple of times and I agree with you as it says 10 points for scoring on all targets. In my mind I was thinking you had to hit wings or body of fly.
Anyway good shooting on this target, especially on the 3 yellow ones.

I read it that way as well but will let @Eric F clarify since it’s his target.

The answer is yes, you get a 10 point bonus for scoring either 5 or 10 points on each target. Here is my test run this evening in low light. #1gohunt gets 10 more points.

Good news. Your target scored 135. All 3 of the yellow targets are 10 points and the bonus added in. I am pretty sure we are going to see a perfect score soon. Great shooting!
You all don’t have to come outta the gate so fast ya know! Great shooting, and what do I get for my weekend off? Rain!

No sweat with skeet, I’m blind in one eye and still shoot a 28 gauge. 😁 Sporting clays are a different matter

That is good news. I thought you had to hit the little Center circle to get the 10 points and I also thought you had to hit all the flies( wings or body) to get the bonus 10 points.
Yes it will be easier now in precision class to get a perfect score.
Don't know about Basic rifle class as I haven't tried to shoot this target yet.

First time trying this, and also first time shooting my new Bergara B14r. I think I scored 110 with the bonus. I'll go back and try again in a couple of weeks, and hopefully have time to figure out the best ammo for my rifle.

Real nice setup and good shooting considering with only CCI standard. You are definitely gonna improve those shots with some better ammo and weather. Edited as I saw you shot SK LR also. I bet next time out you score at least 15 points more.

The Begara Is a great rifle. Nice shooting. The 2nd fly down on left looks like a 10 point shot. 115 points with bonus. I am sure you will beat that easily.

I caught a window without rain and shot a couple targets. Getting close to the perfect target. Just missed by a smidgen. First fly on one and last fly on the other. That's all me. The rifle and ammo were spot on.

Eric, what about the yellow circle he scored at 5. Does it have to be within the center circle to be 10 or within the 4 circles? I am a little confused on this myself

I think it just needs to break that inner line. At least that’s how I read it and how Eric scored his.

Good question. He scored it correctly. The center circle is approx. .7 of an inch. On that target you just need to break the outside line of that inner circle to get 10 points. It is the easiest target to score 10 points on. Ignore the antlers that stick out.

It would be best to leave the dots alone. It may cause confusion in the scoring. When we get to the end of the month maybe we could try an informal challenge to shoot all 20 targets, but not yet.

Agreed, sighting in on those dots could lead to some people thinking you just missed and trying to cover it up. If you want to put a stick or two (as I have attached) to the top of your target as a sight in I am good with that.
