Hey guys so i'm meeting up with someone today for a purchase but i've never met up for a firearm purchase before. Would it be a good idea to meet up at a police station? Of course everything is being done legally but I wouldn't want a cop to get all spooked or something especially at a police station, specifically in Mt Holly here in NC. Thanks

Even though everything is legit I still wouldn't meet at a police station or similar just because. Walmart is allways a good choice for meeting spot cause there everywhere and usually easy for both parties to get to. I like to stay towards the outer fringe of parking lot as not to arouse the shoppers who are covering close to store front. Sporting good stores that deal in firearms and ammo is also a good bet. It's nice an public but also a firearm isn't gonna draw unwanted attention.

I like meeting in public parking lots. Academy Sports, Walmarts, Sheetz, stuff like that. I would never want to meet in a Police Parking lot. Not because the transaction is illegal or anything, but because its adds an element of observation that is completely unnecessary and could lead to interactions that are unwelcomed and awkward. Just be around others and enjoy meeting a brother in arms.

Meet wherever you’re comfortable doing the deal. If your local police station advertises the use of their space for private online sales, then go for it. You’re not doing anything illegal or dirty so you should not feel a need to hide it that much. That said use common sense. It’s common for inspections of firearms during private sales to be conducted in a manner that does not result in a dramatic “look at me” display usually done with a firearm primarily remaining inside of a vehicle, like an open hatchback or an open backseat.

That said I have conducted all of my transactions at sporting goods, stores, Walmart or public gas stations like Sheetz.

I like to meet at a big-box store that sells guns. Nobody blinks an eye when they see two dudes fondling a pistol in the parking lot of Academy. Do that at McDougle's or Circle K and you may draw get some attention.
Also, +1 for 'not at a police station' and ++1 for 'bring a friend'

One of my first deals here was done by a dumpster behind a bar in a very ethnic part of town. Bar parking lot buffoon attempted to boot my car, I asked him not to do so while casually inspecting a nice sig p226, he agreed that it wasn’t necessary.

Big parking lots are better, for better or worse Walmart generally has video.

I would certainly not use a police station that doesn’t advertise a safe meeting space for online transactions. Almost certain they will have video, and probably good facial recognition.

One problem with using a police station is that how do you think that the cops will react if someone they don't know is observed with a firearm in their parking lot, or bringing it inside? Seems to me that this could lead to a "death by cop" outcome.

Any public place. For a little extra piece of mind check the buyer's CFF status, if he/she is a long time or paying member with a good "rating" you have nothing to be concerned about.

Except don't deal with this guy whatever you do! 🤣🤣🤣 😇

This onetime at Randelman Walmart, I met a guy to sell my SKS.
As I was carrying the case to the back of his car, I seen a foreigner (woman) in a mini van in the opposite side of the parking row get all big eyed. as I went back to fetch the ammo can he was fondling the SKS,, pulling the side and what not.
We made the deal and he backs out and takes off, I was there just a min longer setting up my phone and such then backed out and took off for home. As I got to the end of the row a Troopers Car came screaming into the parking lot and passes me. As I look in the rear view, he slows down and stops right where we were.

This is a very good point. If you're concerned for your safety, don't handle firearms around police officers.

I feel like I'm late to this thread (RIP OP), but a police station may not be an absolute "no" as long as you've called ahead. I sure as heck wouldn't just show up. They'll either say yay or nay.

I believe I have seen police station(s) offer their property as a safe space for such transactions (maybe back in my FB days), as well as a spot for handing off a kid or kids between separated or divorced parents.

But to add my voice to the chorus, Walmart and places like that are usually the best options.

Or you could meet @MCQUADE in a church parking lot and have the pastor roll up on you wanting to know what you guys are up to.

haha, at least it all went well and he was one righteous dude.

I know that the Police Dept. in Kannapolis has a section of their lot for online sales transactions that is well lit and has video cameras.I don't know how a gun sale would go down there.

In my opinion, it would be no different than any other legal transaction.

I doubt hoodlums would use such a place and hence it’s a pretty good assumption that it’s a lawful transaction. At least I hope that would be the thinking. There is NOTHING illegal or sketchy in a firearm sale.

Pretty sure my last purchase was done in the shopping mall parking lot in Gastonia. Seller was a cop, actually the department armorer.

.

Does the other party have a good rating and positive feedback?
