Listening to press conference right now with the Sherriff in MI about the school shooting.

He was asked about some politician saying they would look at adding more laws "to prevent" shootings. The Sheriff went on a lengthy rant that boils down to "we have enough laws, what we need is the damned Prosecutors to actually enforce the existing laws." He called out specifically that people are rarely prosecuted for NICS violations and actual use of the weapons being watered down to misdemeanors with no meaningful punishments.

^ Paraphrasing....

Given the area he's in, that part of MI, I'm pleasantly surprised that he didn't fall in with the "2A needs to go" crowd.

Most LEO’s … even the higher up ones like this guy … honestly know that laws don’t prevent crimes … it is the enforcement AND punishment when the prosecutors and courts do their jobs to lower crime. It is not when they cow down to the masses to just get re-elected. It is those liberal, progressive, PC idiots who just what the title and power so they can get the perks and say tell everyone how they are making things better for minorities.

Michael J. Bouchard is an American politician who has served as Sheriff of Oakland County, Michigan since 1999. Bouchard is a member of the Republican Party. From 1991 to 1999, he served in the Michigan State Senate. In 2006, Bouchard unsuccessfully ran for United States Senate but lost to incumbent Debbie Stabenow.
He's had the support of the people for a long time. He's sheriff of Oakland county... Detroit is the county just south of Oakland. You know, where that whole 8 mile thing happens.
It's not surprising to me at all that Bouchard took the stance he did. Now, if you wanted to go down into WaCo, you might get a different response... but even their politicians have seen the writing on the wall and realized that gun control is a pretty bad hill to die on.

The handgun was legally purchased by the shooters father four days before.

20 years in MI - the only reason it votes blue is the high union membership and the crazy % in Wayne Co voting for whoever they are told to. Even Biden voters up there most all own guns. Shall issue and open carry for years.

Parents had a meeting at the school earlier in the day to discuss the boys behavioral problems. Meanwhile dad leaves gun unsecured.

I’m anxious to hear the father’s explanation.
It's my understanding that the parents had been called in to the school as well as the shooter was spoken to prior as well. I'd love to hear how the kid was allowed access to the firearm after that.

MostWanted beat me to it by a few! LOL

I'm curious what your assumption is.
Daddy’s a crackhead, contributed to the broken home, and knowingly left firearms accessible around the house without teaching respect for the tool and was at least 50% aware that something like this would happen.

Our gun club in Oakland County was used by many agencies in the area including state and Feds [ICE/CBP/BP] for training and qualifications. We also hosted the National Patrol Rifle championships annually. On weekends you would find the county 'bad boy' van there with community service sentencees raking leaves and other chores courtesy of our sheriff. No bad words about this sheriff from me.

I understand the importance of securing weapons, but you're treading some very dangerous water by supporting laws governing this type of thing. - I'm not sure if some of you are saying this needs to be the case, or just implying the personal responsibility of securing firearms in general.
