Midwest Farmers Are Tired of Tech-Loaded Tractors They Can’t Fix

I can’t imagine large farms being able to go back to older tractors considering the efficiency gains of these new tractors with all of their tech features. But maybe the down time is so great that it is worth it??

So they like bolt-on tech that isn't required to do what the device was purchased to do. That makes sense.

"equipped with screens".... so duct taping an ipad to the dash? Such magic!

The problem with the right to repair is that they can still lock it behind a paywall.

In the automotive industry computer software has become a huge business. If you want access to a cars electronics you basically have to pay annually for a subscription to access the things you need to work on. If your a specialist who only works on one kind of car it's not that big of a deal but it's really screwing the smaller private mechanics. To be a decent mechanic these days you pretty much have to be an electrical engineer.

It's just like I vehicles we drive. You used could work on them yourself but know with all computers and electronics it's about impossible. The companies know what their doing to get more money .

and cash for clunkers was one big obama handjob to the auto industry to pay people to get their oldschool user-serviceable cars off the market for good

Mfgs like Deere are locking up the computers. If they find that anyone other them their techs work on the equipment, the warranty is killed. Basically the farmers were held hostage by not repairing equipment till the mfg had the time/availability. The farmers fought back.
