Ok. Maybe this isn't optics per se, but...

Is anyone running mixed contacts, one for close vision and one for far? A family friend is doing that says it works great. The brain sorts it out. Was thinking this could be useful for handgun sights, for those that wear glasses.

My original LASIK left me like this and I hated it (left eye was 20/15, right was 20/40). Maybe because I am right dominant but it sucked, especially when driving and my left eye would get blocked by the a pillar

I have the correct right eye for distance and 1/2 less in the left as recommended by the doctor. It works fine. I am not doing it with glasses.

I have standard contacts and a backup pair of glasses. Distance vision is great, near vision is very usable, astigmatism is corrected. Feels like the safest set-up for the common risky tasks that require acute vision and regular focal depth switches (e.g. driving). I already have to compensate for two different prescriptions and eyeball shapes, so I can't imagine running different baseline focal depths for each eye would be comfortable or intuitive.

Red dot solved this problem decades ago. If your corrected or uncorrected distance vision is fine and any astigmatism is squared away, then you will get a crisp, clear aiming point and an unobstructed view of your target.

Today was the first I had heard of it. She says after a few days everything looks fine. My wife said it was mentioned to her at her last eye appointment, but she thought the idea was terrible. Now she's going to revisit it. We've been advised that the bifocal contacts don't work well. I've worn glasses all my life. Contacts that allow me to see the sights well and see at distance and allow me to wear tacti-cool operator shades would be worth considering.

I tried two types and brands of bifocal contacts, they sucketh. I could read and see distance, but everything was blurry. In low light I couldn't see a thing.

I had lasik 19 years ago. I had 20/10 vision after the procedure it has regressed to 20/30 since which is fine. Two years ago I got glasses with a baby bump for the first time to see up close. When I went back to the eye doctor my brain had already rewired to see close with one eye and better far away with the other correcting my reading part. So no I only really wear glasses to drive and clear things up a distance.

I have been wearing mixed (monovision) contact lenses for several years. Works quite well for me. The next year or so will be a bit difficult while the cataracts bloom to the point surgery is required. I am looking forward to the new permanent lenses.

I have worn a contact in my right eye only for about 20 years. It helps with reading and close up work. It was a little tricky getting used to it but works fine.

Years ago when I was less stable money wise I would get a prescription of contacts and only wear one at a time to stretch the time between eye exams out. It also gave each eye a break. I didn’t shoot much at all then but when I did I tried to make sure I had my contact in my right eye.
