Major League Baseball is moving the All Star Game out of Atlanta because of the new Georgia voting laws legislation. Cities and States should quit paying for all these gazillion dollar stadiums and giving huge tax breaks to these professional crybabies! I guess they don't realize how many low income people of color this will affect in the already hard hit restaurant and hospitality industries?

Unrealized costs that will never make the news

Atlanta is sometimes called the Black Wall Street because of its higher than average Black owned businesses. Moving the game really hurts the business community more than the state government ... millions of dollars to locally owned restaurants, bars, etc ... what’s next Braves hime games?

Was listening to O’reilly this morning. Says they contacted the CEO offices of the major Atlanta-based companies that have “taken a stand” on the new law. Not one could name a specific part of the law they object to. Seems it’s all pandering to part of the customer base.

All these companies sure don't have any problems with Jim Crow laws and restricting the rights of people of color when it comes to the 2nd Amendment!

People still watch pro sports? I don’t mind seeing kids play but I’ll never understand watching grown adults playing a game, don’t even get me started on the people who say “we won XXXX”, uhh no, “we” IE You didn’t win Jack, spoiled brat millionaires won a game that makes absolutely zero difference in the universe.

But voters will die from dehydration!!!!!! o_O

Will CNN, Delta or Coke HQ move out of Atlanta?

This is why the left always wins. IMO their new laws don’t go nearly far enough. It’s not going to stop most of the fraud. It’s a nothing burger. But the left fights for every square inch.

Now we can watch the baseball ratings and attendance go south like the NFL’s and NBA’s.

Fact-checker dings Biden, media pundits for disingenuous 'Jim Crow' claims about Georgia voting law

"Attempts by prominent Democrats—including the president—to tie SB 202 to the Jim Crow era are incredibly disingenuous. For starters, the bill actually expands voting access for most Georgians, mandating precincts hold at least 17 days of early voting—including two Saturdays, with Sundays optional—leading up to the election," the Dispatch staff wrote. "Voting locations during this period must be open for at least eight hours, and can operate between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Several states (including Biden’s home state of Delaware, which will not implement it until 2022) do not currently allow any in-person early voting, and plenty, like New Jersey, offer far fewer than 17 days."

Actual Jim Crow legislation in the South in the late 1800s through the mid-1900s effectively disenfranchised Black voters, with such racist measures as poll taxes and literacy tests.

The new Georgia law, however, leaves in place no-excuse absentee voting, although it shortens the window to apply for ballots to 67 days. Other measures include preventing government agencies from mailing applications unsolicited, using driver's licenses or some other form of photo ID instead of signature-matching to verify their identity in absentee ballot applications, and codifying ballot drop boxes into law -- they were illegal in Georgia pre-pandemic but used in 2020 due to public health measures."

If this really pisses of MLB that bad will they refuse any television money for the All Star game coming from the state of Georgia? Will they stop all merchandise sales in the state? Will they ban any and all Amazon sales for MLB items going to Georgia?

Or are they just going to cherry pick the item that makes the current news cycle?

It's a shame. It's truly a shame to me, "America's Pastime" has been politicized so much. I'd venture a bet that I've played as much and probably more baseball in my life than anyone on the forum. Growing up, Baseball was my life. I played and practiced and trained year round.
I played 4 other sports...to help me condition for baseball. Several bad life choices and circumstances ended my career but I still coached and instructed up and coming players for a few years.
It took the Cubs making the World Series for me to watch a game on TV again. I grew up a Cubs fan, coming home from school watching day games at Wrigley 'cause the didn't have lights. Honestly haven't watched much since then either as it brings back memories of the opportunity I had to succeed and advance and pissed it away.
Bottom line, I wish Sport as a whole would stay out of politics. Whether they realize it or not, they are modern day gladiators. I could honestly not give 2 chits what they do off the field/court. They get paid to entertain me. Without spectator attendance ticket sales and Merchandise sales and TV rights they don't make money for the owners. Therefore they are useless to them, and without another skill or trade are useless to society...

Would it be great if no other venue would take the game? MLB should hold it in China or North Korea.

Seems the driving force behind all this is the Democratic party pushing the sponsors. Boycott them all and tell them why.

CD
Yes. I think it's political/economic blackmail. I remember the CEO of My Pillow saying the channels that were pulling his products had called him, telling him they were being threatened. I have to believe that, because it's happening so fast, there can't be any time for market analysis. Which usually governs any kind of major decision.

I just bought one of his pillows

Objections based in a belief that black people and people of color are inherently incapable of taking the most basic steps to get an ID? If that is their claim, then their claim is blatantly racist, and they are the ones who are the racist. Black people should be insulted at the very insinuation that the identification requirement to vote is somehow racist because they are incapable. Black people are fully capable of obtaining a government issued ID in order to vote. The steps require to obtain an ID are not more difficult than the steps required to actually vote. So, if they’re incapable of doing the one, then they’re incapable of doing the other. Which we all know both are absolutely not true.

Yes. it's stupid all around.
Many have spoken quite eloquently on "The Soft Bigotry of Low Expectations"
They are making up really silly arguments, and they can get away with it because the media is in their pocket.

It’s not just that they can’t obtain one...it’s that when they get one, they can’t figure out how to read it in order to know what their DL number is.

Or at least that’s what this genius argues...🙄

Left-wing activist blasted for suggesting Georgians may not find driver’s license number to vote

I’m not only so stupid that I can’t find my Driver’s License number, I also don’t understand the difference between D and R beside each candidate’s name on the ballot. Plus, I wanna get fed while standing in line to vote. A Piepie’s Chicken Sammich and Starbucks Frappuccino would be nice.

it's funny because the law about food/drinks only applies to partisan people who are trying to sway votes.
it's still 100% legal for non-partisan people to distribute the stuff

Like the one ahead of me at the FL in Jamestown today. Tried to buy a slim Jim like beef stick, dug in every pocket for enough coinage and then pulled out a card when that was declined quit trying it and said something about using it at customer service.
