I haven’t seen much media coverage although I’m sure there’s more than I’ve seen. Any projected time frame for power being restored?

The Sanford Lowe's sold out of generators several hours ago from what I've heard. All hotels in Sanford are booked as well, and I think they've ran at least one gas station out of gas.

News conference at 4pm today:
Shelter open at Hillcrest Athletic Center
Curfew in effect from 9pm to 5am.
Two substations hit with gunfire and repair estimates are as late as Thursday right now.
 
This is just 2 substations in an area without a huge, concentrated population. Imagine a coordinated version of this with a couple dozen hit in areas that would create more chaos. Not hard to do. Then imagine if it was timed before a winter storm. 😳

I would imagine that a well orchestrated attack could cause a cascading grid failure as systems overloaded trying to re-route power.

It was confirmed in this afternoon’s press briefing that two substations were shot up. What are we interjecting from CA?

The details about specifics of the damage, inside knowledge, and lack of fingerprints came from the 2013 CA timeline back on page 1. I haven't seen anything similar here and now yet.

Rockingham had a slew of dining people this morning. Also emptying gas pumps. Went in an Indian convenience store. Another our bathrooms are broken. I do work for Indians and know that BS.
Me: Sir is this an Indian owned store.
Employee: Yes
Me: You cannot close those bathrooms. Do I need to make a call tomorrow to the county.
Employee: Let me get the key.
 
Rockingham Lowes sold 17 generators Sunday in two hours. Lot of guys trying to find plugs to backfeed the dryer receptacle. One guy bought UF cable to plug in his 5000 watt generator. One guy wanted me to explain how to wire his panel. Nope.

Amazon ship date on a premade cord and a boxed receptacle like mine (25’) is Dec 12th.

Passed 2 golf courses- full of players. Can’t stop golf. No power needed.

B. Obstruct local LE to deflect from their asset.

Ouch. Are dryer plugs 3 or 4 wire? I.e. Do they have a neutral? If they’re 3 wire it may appear to work as the ground is bonded to the neutral at the box, but Jesus, that’s asking for trouble.

Again, my question about the generator feedback and hitting a lineman if it’s not isolated, I’d think seeing the entire regional impedance reflected back to the generator would cause it to stall out as soon as it was connected. Still, if someone is unlucky enough to between a hot line and ground at that instant, speed of light and all that.

Old 3 wire, code now is 4. 115 for controls, 230 element.

Agree backfeed through the plug to panel, feeding whole house wiring. Insanity.

FWIW,

I asked a couple of lineman about this fairly recently.. They laughed and called it more or less an urban ledgend, not the slightest bit concerned whatsoever of getting whacked from someone's improper generator setup. Said they ground out all legs before they do anything and had a better chance of blowing up a generator than anything else.
