Very few books seem to actually translate into movies well. However, the British seem to be exceptionally adept at this more so than we are.
There are three of Terry Pratchett's Discword books which have been made into movies: The Color of Magic, Hogfather, and Going Postal. The books are excellent. And the movies very much capture the essence and nuances of the books. I HIGHLY recommend them...and wish they'd continue making more such movies so long as they keep up that level of quality.

"An education was a bit like a communicable sexual disease. It made you unsuitable for a lot of jobs and then you had the urge to pass it on." Hogfather

“I can’t think of a more opportune time,” said the Loremaster.” The Color of Magic
