The oddest part I found about the article is neighbors noticed when the people came home, noticed the smoke from the home burning, yet nothing was mentioned of the evident gun shots!!!! Nice reporting.

It's the talk of the town - locally. A lot of people are blaming this on the DCSD because of their lack of action. The male was making statements to a deputy about thinking he was being followed, but that's more of an indication of mental illness and isn't really something the SD would investigate.

In a press conference the Sheriff was visibly shook up about seeing the shot and burned children, rightfully so.

Sad all the way around. There's evil and crazy all around us these days,

Mentally ill or on drugs? Which could also be prescribed medication. Usually it‘s the medication for mental issues that causes paranoid side effects.

My oldest sister was having work stress and the doctor prescribed meds. She had all kinds of reactions and was reporting being followed and her phone calls listened into. Almost cost her a job, marriage, and friends before I talked her out of taking meds and into changing company positions.

It is Davie County, so drugs are certainly a possibility. Being that it happened in Cooleemee increases those odds.

It is also possible, maybe not probable, that someone really was out to get him, and did. Then covered it up to make it look like a murder suicide. Sounds like the basis of a good thriller mystery. If only this were the pages of a book and not a real family.

Maybe he was followed and murdered and someone put the gun in his hand and burnt the house down to cover it up?

I’m sure this hasn’t happened a trillion times lol.

I don't know if the guy was mentally ill or he was creating a story for a defense. He must have decided he couldn't live with what he'd done and off'ed himself? Not sure the S.O. could have prevented it in the end if this guy intended to do the deed.

I don't believe being mentally ill or on drugs gives any a license to kill and get away with it. It should NEVER keep someone from doing the time for their crime. Just my opinion.

There are a lot of people in the area that are salty about the problematic Mocksville PD having been dissolved and are looking for any reason to blame the DCSO for anything. Kind of a moot point, Cooleemee is way outside the old MPD jurisdiction.

Who drives to the fire department to report a house fire?
Lots of folks do. Some because they don’t want their name logged into 9-1-1 as the caller. Others because it’s just easy for them to ride up and let someone know. You would be surprised how folks are

This all sad...but it's not the job of the police to take care of the mental health stuff.

But the Gov has slowly made it nobodies job, which is why LE ends up with it. The lack of MH resources has spawned an awful lot of problems in the last 40 years that those resource have dried up. I'm not sure the cost savings were worth it.

I gotta wonder if psy-meds were involved.
I doubt drugs. Look at the family that showed up - together - at the SD.

Funds never dried up. I think this is more what you mean. They were ended because it was never a priority for people who don’t vote. Mental illness has been viewed as an undesirable. But it’s ok to send billions to foreign nations for wars and US control of a dictator. Not helping the mentally ill has been a travesty by politicians because most Americans don’t care about this group.
