Got an Icom ID-5100a and finally found the antenna I wanted at Charlotte Hamfest. Made an antenna mount, lower leg goes down to hood hinge bolt. Slight trimming required but it's all hidden under the cowl trim. The bracket allowed for a solid mount at the correct angle.

The radio face tucks nicely in the useless, auto-ejecting dash cubby. It's rigidly mounted with a simple bent sheet metal bracket and 3M double sided tape (the good stuff). The radio face is held to the bracket by magnets and is very secure and easily removable. Still searching for a spring loaded hinge to replace the rigid mount that will allow access to the useless cubby.
