I put this in the "What have you bought that's gun related" thread...then I figured it needed to be in the Wheelguns area too :)

I have GOT to quit going into Ed's. It's IN-conveniently located directly on my route down to SC.

I was contemplating an SAA in 45 LC. The only single action revolver I have (need to get some pics of that) is a black powder .36 cal percussion cap-and-ball Colt Navy Model 1861 (unfortunately, non-matching serials) that my great-grandfather carried in Texas. It's pretty worn and pitted, and I don't shoot it. But I just all of a sudden got the SAA bug (must be these mosquitoes from the hurricanes carrying something). Then I saw this in Ed's... Ruger New Model Blackhawk, 6.5" barrel, wooden grips, with two cylinders in 357 magnum and 9mm...for $420.

So...I skinned that smokewagon.

Bonus: it was Ruger day, and the rep hollered at Ed for selling it so cheap. Then gave me a hat and a silicone cloth. :D

So, it's not a 45, but it's cheaper to shoot, and my wife and I already have 38/357 wheelguns...I like it.

I'm in the same boat! Looking for a 45 colt SAA. Almost went to Ed's today. Looks good. Enjoy.

He had some Vaqueros (fixed sight version) in blues and stainless) in 45 LC...

Very nice price & a great gun. My 6 1/2" .357 shoots like a laser beam & makes me look good at the range.

If this is your first s/a revolver, I'll go ahead & offer my condolences. They're contagious as hell & yer gonna end up with more of them. That 6 1/2" Blackhawk turned into a Single Ten, a .41Mag Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter & a pair .41Mag Blackhawks.

We’ll have you shooting cowboy action before long. Nothing like a SA revolver, lead bullets and steel targets!
That’s what I’m afraid of :) (It’s not the willingness that’s lacking, it’s the time...)

They're worse than crack, just so you know. I've got levergun "big brothers" for my .22lr & .41Mag single actions. .357 is next, most likely the case colored Henry carbine with the octagon barrel.

I've also got leverguns in .30-30 & .45-70, but missing a .35Rem. I've got all the requisite SD/HD/tacticool tool-type guns, but single action revolvers & lever action rifles are my go-to, absolute favorite guns I own.

I do have an 80s Marlin 336C in 30-30, which is a hoot to shoot.

Nice combo!
Picked one of these up years ago although without the exchange cylinder. Speaking on shooting cowboy style that used to be one of my favorite ways to fire the 357 blackhawk. Bought some cheapo cowboy rounds from a gun show and had one lodge in barrel. Put a second behind it before I even knew it happened and bulged the barrel.
Found a used barrel in great shape and clocked it to the frame and set the cylinder to barrel clearance to restore it. I cut the bulged barrel part off and have a spare 3” snubby for it now.
Lesson learned, either buy good ammo to blast off or reload your own.

Those are my favorites. I have 45 Colt Blackhawks, New Vaqueros, and old Vaqueros. I shoot the Vaqueros better than the Blackhawk. The old Vaqueros can handle heavy loads while the New Vaqueros are trim and handy. A 357 Magnum New Vaquero is a jewel of a revolver.

Well, you picked a good one to start with!

I’ve been looking for a 4 5/8” .357/9mm convertible.
Congrats on the great find!

Less than they go for nowadays. I’ll probably just stick with my 336 in .30-30 for a lever, when all’s said and done…
Well, you got a good deal on your blackhawk. I have a JM stamped 1894C (357) and a JM stamped 1894S (44). I bought the S about two years before the C. The C was $100 more than S. At least the older Marlins, the 357 seams to be a bit higher than the 44s. There's some nice, new pistol caliber lever actions on the market now but they are not cheap.

Finding a Blackhawk for $420 in 2018 wasn't too hard if you got a little lucky. Nowadays,, thanks to the last few years of inflation,, that would be a steal.

They sure are. I think I've reached grumpy old man mode...I think everything costs too much :D

And...I didn't shoot it much...so I sold it here, three years after I bought it.
