Bought it in 1990. Caught everything from Alligator gar & blacktip sharks to brook trout and top water salmon on it. I broke the tip off last weekend. I nearly cried.

Recommend me a replacement.
Needs to be medium weight & rugged.
Prefer two piece wrapped fiberglass unless there is a better choice.

Are the new Ugly sticks comparable in quality?

The new US is almost the same, a blend of fiberglass and graphite so it's not going to feel exactly the same but maybe close. By having more graphite than your 90's model it's going to feel "faster" with less response time..... Unless you can find one at a yard sale that's the way it's going to be. Sorry you lost it, I know the feeling....

Did you beat someone with it? Sorry, I couldn't help myself. I know what you mean, I fish with an Orvis, 4 wt, 4 piece, 8'6" Trident TL. I broke the middle section and sent it back to be fixed. It came back in the mail yesterday and when I opened it up...different rod.WTH! I put it together and yard cast it a bit. Different feel, different action, different everything! Damn it, I want my old rod back! Fixed! I called Orvis and was told they can't fix it, it was out of production, this was the closest rod to mine, I should love it, Yada, yada, yada. I've got a bunch of fly rods, Winstons, Thomas and Thomas, different Orvis, St Croix, but I used that rod more than anything! I've beat it around out west, used it in the boat fishing the South Holston, fished small creeks with it. It was my favorite rod, and now it's gone! Guess it's of to eBay to see if I can find another one!

I have Ugly sticks from the 1980's belonging to my grandparents. Only thing Ive had to do is fix the eyes. One of them pulled in at the time a state record pompano.

I do like the Ugly Stick Lite Pro, about the best sub 40 dollar rod out there imo.

Is there enough left to replace the tip? It would make it a little faster feeling but if it broke close it should not be much. Tip eyes are easy to replace.

I would suggest contacting Ugly Stick and talk to them about it. They may send you a new one or send you a coupon for a discount on a replacement. I did that with Fenwick a few years back and they sent me a replacement rod at no charge. Fenwick had great customer service and I would bet Ugly stick does too. Worth a try anyway.

The old Ugly Sticks had a lifetime Warranty.

It's a 1 yr warranty now.
You think they still honor the old warranty?

The warranty on the product at the time of purchase should be the applicable warranty. The US you have came with a lifetime warranty. They should honor it.

Of course that opinion and $2.50 might get you a cup of Charbucks coffee....

Loved my 12 for ugly stock when we lived in MA.
Used about 10 yards 40 pound mono for a shock leader, 4 ounce pyramid and pendulum cat technique to launch from the surf.
Tried that same technique with a cheap rod and the sucker snapped in two.

I was so use to saltwater fishing and Ugly sticks, and I bought some higher end bass rods. I figured out fast you had to baby them after breaking 3 tips simply casting. Granted it wasn't finesse casting.

I'd contact them. The lifetime warranty was a huge selling point on the old Ugly sticks. Now the junk reels on the combos are 1 year and rod 7 years according to the website http://www.uglystik.com/UglyStik-warranty-service.html

Ive seen the 1 year warranty attached to the combos, and the gx2 Ugly sticks. My elite pros had 5 years attached and the Ugly stick Tiger elite had 7 attached, but their website says 7 years.

Anyway I know for a fact that the Ugly sticks sold back in the early 2000's 90's and before had the lifetime warranty touted. Never had one break fishing that wasn't accidentally slammed in a tailgate ;), just the guides and inserts wearing off with age.

I've lost more ends to the damn tailgate than anything else.
