The exercise of the right enumerated in Amendment I...
...the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
@1911gobang stated in post #591,
"...walk in to my LGS and buy a select fire, 10.5” AR with a can, take it home THAT DAY and shoot it without any special permits or permissions."
That's exactly the way it should be. Will it ever happen? No idea, but I can assure you if it does, it will not happen overnight. Our rights were not trampled on all at one time; it was and is an incremental process stretching over decades.
Citizens in Virginia saw what was coming and they acted. They attended meetings of their local elected officials. They raised hell and petitioned their commissioners to take a stand. Well, the process worked as intended. Local elected officials, including some Sheriffs, listened to "the people" and acted. The citizens of Virginia did not stop at the local level. On January 20th of this year, "the people" of Virginia showed up to petition their government at the State level...it raised eyebrows; not only in Virginia, but across the country.
Now, in NC, you can see how the "fire" has spread. Folks are not waiting for our legislature to submit anti-liberty legislation. They are being proactive; creating petitions and attending local BOC meetings. In mid-January, we had a handful (around 8) of counties that had passed 2nd Amendment resolutions. As of today, a little over a month later, we have 65 of 100 counties that have "gone green"...and it's not just happening in NC, but across the country.
Is this "sanctuary" movement going to reverse our course overnight? Nope, but it does show elected leaders where the people stand. It exposes the lies of the media when they report, "the majority of Americans want less firearms in society and more regulation." It is a historical record "the people" used every peaceable recourse possible to let the elected know, "We don't want this and we won't stand for it."
That is what's being achieved here.
