NCSHP honor guard kept out of Hornets game because of thier Guns.

Deja vu back to September when they did the same thing to Border Patrol...

I think I remember the same thing happening a few months ago at the rodeo? Thought it got cleared up as a 'misunderstanding' but apparently not..

I had not heard of that one either. I think MJ gets a lot of publicity help from the local media.

Cliff notes version: exact same scenario with two changes - Professional Bull Riders instead of the Hornets, and Border Patrol agents instead of NHSHP.

Article/video doesn't work for me so quick question.

Exactly who stopped them?

The hornets head of security stopped them. It said thier was a meeting planned on Friday between the NCSHP and building security to try to work it out.

NCSHP should just blow it off...

Somebody at the building has set out to be a jerk.

I wish law enforcement -all of them, on- and off-duty- would tell building management to pound sand.

The "head of security" has, in my opinion, demonstrated an inability to think critically in a very low stress situation. Really unimpressive. I would probably remove that guy from his post if it were my call. Of course, this assumed that there are no material facts of which I am unaware. It's difficult to imagine a circumstance where it is reasonable to disarm NCSHP Troopers. Dumb.

This needs to be addressed immediately and with severe consequences to the f*c*ing "Head of Security".... He has successfully created the ultimate Gun Free Zone for criminals to walk in and slaughter every person in the place. Makes me wonder if a shooting did happen if the stupid ass would stand at the front door and disarm every first responder that came by......

It's fine balance of respecting property owners' rights, making a statement, and abuse of power. Given current climate, it would automatically be reported as abuse of power. Aside from all LEO walking out immediately, a leadership meeting is probably best.

That said, the head of security, sounds like a complete ass or total idiot (maybe both).

Could be an insurance issue.

Issue is if concealed carry citizens are turned away it's Ok, it's only news because it was the NCSHP. Now that NCSHP honor guard knows how the rest of the law abiding citizens feel when they have to disarm and risk safety.

That said, sort of dumb to disarm the good guys like the NCSHP. What a mess.

I can't understand why they want to disarm law enforcement.... you would think they would appreciate the help!

This has got to be a result of having of those ultra-anti idiots at the head. You know, the type we usually only hear about from the "Moms" or similar group. th kind we wonder how the hell they remember to breathe everyday. Somehow one of those goobers made it to a security head position.

What is security armed with at the arena? Flashlights and whistles?

I admittedly didn't read the article: what guns were the issue? The polished non-functioning drill rifles? Or holstered real guns?

I don't see this as a citizen thing because those officers are on duty anytime they are in uniform dress or normal and a weapon is part of that uniform. Period. So if this was an off duty officer that was stopped no big deal imo. But this was an invitation with a slap in the face.

I'm against disarming off duty officers, uniformed officers, or average law abiding citizens. A uniform makes one no more special than any other person. My gun is part of my attire also when I am an average citizen out in public that carries everywhere possible , as is many others. I should have no more privilege than a law abiding citizen, equality and equal rights and all.

I try to stay away from these venues that disarm you, it's not safe. That said it's their right on private property to allow or disallow certain things.

Given NC law, no law is broken if a law enforcement or corrections officer, DA, Judge, Clerk of Court, or Register of deeds, and maybe a few other government jobs ignore the concealed carry laws applied to other citizens in places one can and can't carry. They can carry on property posted without worry of being charged, or for example educational property that government says is off limits to law abiding citizens , but if asked to leave and they refuse then there is possible trespassing. It was smart for the NCSHP to leave. They now know how everyone else feels.

I agree. Being part of government shouldn't bestow extra rights upon you. I take exception to the very notion that just because you're a cop, even on duty, that you are granted supreme privilege. I believe the idea that they have such privilege is false because one can't grant to another that which they don't have. Consequently, if mere people can't carry there, they have no ability to grant the police the ability to either.

Looks like it is time to write all professional sports off my to-do list. If anyone knows of a pro sports organization other than the shooting sports, that is pro gun let me know.

I'm not a gambler but if I were, I'd put everything I had down on a wager that some very bad people are out there watching events like the one in this thread. This ridiculous gun paranoia going on in certain areas is going to continue to get more people killed.

Nah, I guarantee that the officers in charge of security for the place were armed, and I'd also bet that the honor guard's guns (assuming they're carrying long guns) are for the presentation only. Their sidearms are probably their regular sidearms though.

No disagreement from me. I was just speaking in general terms regarding Islamic radicals watching news stories like this and taking notes.

Smart move. Keep out all the good guys with guns so the bad guys wI'll be safe

It continues to amaze me that we don't get hit in the soft targets that are openly advertised as such. If someone wanted to plan an attack on any number of soft targets, we make their planning VERY easy.

Wonder how many NBA thugs had pistols in their gym bags?
