Neck Knife? Prototype finished

Looks awesome. Even if you go with that pattern exactly.

For a lightweight backpacking knife. I would want the butt high enough to get as much of the blade as possible to sit flat the cutting surface.

Probably just me but if I'm going to have just one knife while camping. Being able to lay the edge flat for food prep, even just sliding some chopped ramps into my pan makes all the difference. Not many "all in one" blades do this.

I'm not even talking full grip. A pinch grip is fine, I just want the edge to touch the material across it's length.

I was thinking more tip control but I understand what you are saying.
Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback. ;)

I can drop the heel of the blade a tad and tweak the handle butt and get that edges to butt clearance.

I know they get a bit out there with some of their designs, but I have a Tops MSK 2.5 and it’s pretty solid.

Pretty anxious to see how this one turns out @opaul …if your other work is any indication, should be an awesome blade👍

Nice! I really like that one! Is it going to be for sale?

Yes sir, as soon as it's heat treated and tempered it will be looking a new home. I've saved the pattern and plan on makiing more. There isn't going to be a refined finish, on these but it will be satisfactory for it's intended use. I haven't decided on making a sheath for these. I currently don't do kydex but I think this knife would be a good fit for that material.

I realize these are just starting points BUT to me all they need is for the top of the "handle" to be rounded some so there are no sharp points to gouge the palm of your hand.......You're gonna sell Alot of these!!!
Good observation. The 45degree cut on the butt eliminates that, plus all the edges will be softened in the finished product. And yes I hope so ;>}. Thanks Billy!!
Starting your sheath this weekend.

Picked up the first prototype neck knife today from @opaul , I love it! Thanks a lot Paul.

Billy, I seen your knife in person today. And boy she looks great! Congratulations sir on getting that beautiful knife.

So while I was at it I had a piece of 1084 left over and made this one. I’m going to dub it Backpacker Minimalist2. It’s still under build.
