Here ya go, @Burt Gummer .

My buddy Jesse and I are opening a new FFL transfer business here in my town of Silsbee. He already has 2 over in the Houston and Katy area and he's killing it over there. We have been talking about it for a while now and decided to do it. We are 50/50 partners on this one. Jesse was pretty smart to name his business FFL Texas. When someone searches for an FFL in Texas, guess who's name pops up first? This one will be FFL Texas-Silsbee.

I have secured us an office space in a real estate office here in town. We have already applied for the FFL for Silsbee with me as the responsible party. We expect to get the FFL by late February. New computer, security system, and other stuff has been purchased.

The lady that owns the real estate business will have the office cleaned out by next week, currently using it for some storage. I already have a key to the building and I'll be able to go in and give the office a good cleaning before we start bringing stuff in. We already have a desk and chairs, filing cabinet, locking cabinet/safe, email has been set up, and a phone number. Rent is $300 a month and includes wifi, office furniture, use of a full kitchen, receptionist to accept deliveries, security. And, it's less than 2 miles from my home.

Jesse and I both see that more and more people are buying online and doing transfers. It is not unusual for him to 75-100 transfers a week over there. Granted, it is a lot more populated over there but there aren't many places around here for transfers. It is more rural here with a lot of hunters but, Beaumont is just 12 miles away. He has done 60 transfers so far this month and he's sold several suppressors. 60 transfers isn't bad given the fact that there aren't many guns available right now.

You may remember, I went over to Katy a few months ago and filled in for him while he and his wife went away for a week. Since Covid, the process goes very fast. It starts with getting an email from the shipper letting you know a package is coming for Mr Buyer. We have copy and paste emails to send to the buyer asking for copies of DL and LTC. Once they send it, and the gun arrives, we do the online 4473, and NCIS check if they don't have a LTC. We print it off and email the buyer with instructions of when and where to pick it up. They arrive and call or text, we take the paperwork out, they look it over and sign it. They pay the transfer fee and take the gun. In and out in less than 5 minutes.

We'll special order items if someone is looking for something in particular (if it's available). We will not stock any inventory but may buy some deals or police trade in guns to sell. We will do consignments and buy guns. Jesse always tells someone up front that they need to do a private sale to get more for their gun. Many people don't want to fool with it or feel more comfortable if it goes through an FFL. He gets some good buys on guns.

We'll also offer gun cleaning and scope mounting and bore sighting. Gun cleaning runs $40 and you'd be amazed at the number of people that will pay it.

This has been in the works for a while now and It's starting to come together. I'm excited about it and anxious to get going. I'm sure it will be a struggle for a little while but I expect it to do very well.

That is exciting!!! Best of luck with the new venture!

Awaiting your affiliate office in West Jeff. Congrats.

Congratulations.

congrats. I gave 2 different gun shops $40 each for about 5 minutes of work a week or so ago.
let's hope you can get lots of people like I assume most of us are - ID and carry license out, "yes no no no etc... " done.

Great idea! The only piece of advice that I’d give you is to set it up as an LLC or other type of liability shielding business.

Question. When you take a firearm in for cleaning or scope mounting, does it have to go into your bound book?

Not if it goes back out the same day. If it stays overnight, yes.

Wishing you guys much success and enjoyment in doing something you're sure to love.

Our FFL came today and Gun Broker has a copy of our FFL on file. I'll be getting our FFL out to other online sellers soon. Here is our business card that a good friend and forum member made for me. I think he did a great job.

I sold a used car to a very old friend some years ago. The check bounced because he was old and effed up his banking. He apologized profusely.
I replied,” If you can't bounce a check to an old friend, who can you bounce a check to??"

Good luck ... although the way you are you’re gonna do damn good by word of mouth. Now the next big question ... what kinda shop dog are you guys gonna get? A medium sized rescue pup as “greeter” can get repeat business ... “just to see the dog”.
