well, it's Volvo, but i can see something like this
becoming more restrictive and required for insurance/warranty.

Volvo is keeping one of its more controversial promises by installing an electronic speed limiter
in all of its cars regardless of drivetrain type, horsepower, body style, or target market.

Friend had a Grand Prix that the engine would cut out around 110........ until the speed went down and then cut back on. This was 1995??? Or so

On a serious note, i have no desire to go that fast on a public highway.

They've been doing it on sport bikes for a while, too.

Coworkers have told me the same thing about the F-250 vans, Edges and Explorers.
I’m not interested in finding out.

Being a bit of a Porsche fan, I had a 1986 951 (944 Turbo). With nothing more than the catalytic removed (for testing purposes :D ) I let it loose one evening. I don't know how fast it actually goes as the speedometer ends at 165 and I had it buried and it was still pulling. You know you're going fast when the guard rails on the interstate look like they're floating.

I've noticed that the older I get the slower I tend to go.... No need to rush to the end that's already fast approaching....
On the other hand, my 90 year old aunt got pulled for speeding on her way to church last year. The officer asked her why she was going so fast. She said, " I'm 90, I don't have much time left. I'm trying to get in as much as I can before I die." He let her off with a warning.

I had a Grand Prix GTP that was limited to 105mph, when I put the smaller supercharger pulley and re-tuned the computer 145mph is where my balls ended and it wanted more.

@RS had a 2017 Explorer Sport that was "governed" to 130 MPH. @Geezer, @garvin and Cousin Jerry saw it do it. It was strange would pull like a freight train to 130 and level right off. I could let up off the gas a good way and it would stay right at 130. Put it on the mat...still 130. Had a 2017,2018 and a 2019 F 150 all with 5.0s that would fly to 100 and ….that's all folks. Not a friend of being "governed".

I was about 17 and my dad got hit in his truck and it was totaled.
He was given a Grand Prix as a loaner car.

I was delivering newspapers on Saturday nights/Sunday mornings during my senior year and took it out that night to deliver in.
On the way home, about 6am on a Sunday morning, I wanted to see what it'd do
I, too, met that speed limiter around 100mph. The car just shut off. I didnt know about speed limiters and thought "how am I going to explain a blown engine???"
Thankfully I turned the key off, and then it cranked back up

Later that day I went to my high school job at Lone Star Steakhouse in WS.
On my lunch break i went down Griffith road, lots of little side roads on it for industrial places - I did burnouts in a culdesac for a while

It was always fun to pull up in a 4 door car and bust about anyone who wanted to run.

For a lot of pickup trucks, I imagine the speed limiter is there for safety. The F250's and 350's I've driven were limited to 98, and after getting there, I didn't want to go any faster. I'm sure it had the power to do 120 or better, but going that fast was just asking for trouble. If you want to go fast, get something made for it. :D

The 2006 GT mustang I had topped out somewhere between 155 and 160. I did it once, and it was more than fast enough for me. The 2003 I have right now, I haven't found its top speed yet, and probably won't. I'm a little older and wiser now. I know it will do 130, and I only needed to see that number once. I'm told they'll do 155 or so, and I'll take their word for it.

Speed limits have a lot to do with the factory equipped tires. If the factory equips a car with a tire limited to 110mph, and they let the car do 120 and you had a blow out at that speed, it opens them up to lawsuits.

I just got new Michelin Defenders on my Subaru Outback. Subaru calls for H rated 130 mph. Costco on Tyvola would not sell me the T rated 118 mph tire. Costco in Matthews didn't care. I told the guy at Tyvola, I doubt my Outback will even go 118. Michelin didn't have the size I needed in the Defender in a H rating.

I know an 11 f250 will do 112 factory.

During delete and tune it required a number. so 300 it is

I used to be with a county rescue department that ran a bunch of F450's. Longer runs to calls on the interstate would be just riding on the governor at 98.

Sometimes in North Charleston, we would be the slow ones doing 98 at 3am on I26.

My old 83 CJ7 with the 4 cylinder was limited to 52 mph......down hill.....with a tail wind.

Had no idea there were limiters on cars. What is the point of a $100K plus Vette or whatever that is 500hp plus and it's speed limited. F that. My wife's first really nice (and new ) car was a BMW 3 series years ago. It was an automatic but no low emissions or other crap that they put on now. I think the speedo said 140mph. That damn car would fly. We've had a bunch since then but none of them were as fast or as much fun to drive as that one including one 3 years ago that was a twin turbo. Took too long for the turbos to spin up.
