Hey crew, just a quick intro. Recently moved to Wilmington from Colorado after getting completely fed up of the Cali-fornication of what used to be an awesome state. It was one thing after another, from the standard capacity mag ban, to the ban on 80%, and now they're seeking an all out ban on "assault weapons" (among many other social and tax issues). Happy to trade the Rockies for the beach, though. The inlaws are in Carolina Beach, so we've been coming here to visit for a long time and just decided to get out here finally. Sorry for making all the home insurance premiums go up ;). Stoked to be here and contribute to the community.

Here's a pic I snapped of our last hike last fall before we moved.

Welcome!

So man. I get you. 100%. I love Colorado. I love the Rocky Mountains in general. Living in Montana was awesome, but that was back in 2009ish before Californians were really starting to get a grip on the state. It always seemed like Colorado was in the same situation, just a decade or so ahead of Montana in terms of the effects antigunners and leftist policies immigrating from California and Washington were having on the state. Which sucks. It really sucks. Because I love it out there and it sounds like you really did/do too. NC is beautiful but little to nothing can compare to the majesty of the Rockies in the US. It stinks when crappy people and worse policies turn what would otherwise be a beautiful place into a politically dystopian nightmare. I hate that you're having to move here to get away from that because other than the terrible politics it'd be an amazing place. But I'm happy that you're getting yourself and your family out of something that is ultimately just going to get worse. You're definitely in like company now.

Welcome from WNC from another one-time Colorado refugee (1980-86). God's own country, but I'd never live there now.

I spent a lot of hiking time from the East Portal of the Moffat Tunnel up to Crater/Clayton/Hart Lakes. Climbed & rafted there and elsewhere out west also.

Welcome!

I have always said, if it weren't for the politics, I would probably be living in Colorado or another western state. My wife and I love the beauty of the Rockies, the lack of humidity, how many places there are where you can just go hiking on a whim... The reason why people here in the Southeast are fat isn't just the biscuits, it's the fact that going outdoors is so miserable! But since you're near the beach, it'll be alright :)

One word of advice: get a reverse osmosis water filtration system for your house in Wilmington. The tap water is poisoned by PFAs and PFOAs due to chemical dumping. Many lawsuits are in progress. My brother just went though cancer treatments after living in Wilmington for five years. Can't prove the cancer was from the tap water, but there are lots of similar stories. He is the only one in two generations of our family to have had cancer, and he got it at the age of 23.

Greetings from Lower Carrboro, which is a place politically even worse than you left.

Carrboro should be to NC like classic vaccines are to the body, a way to teach the larger host how to stay immune to the disease.
People like you moving here make NC even stronger versus the onslaught, and for this, I am grateful.

Welcome.

PS: good time to find out what the two dates shown on the NC flag are, and why they are there

Welcome from a former Colorado resident from long ago. I hiked and drove the front range above the 'Springs until my wife tbreatened divorce. My brother lives in Wilmington, you'll like it there.

Appreciate that! There's something to be said for staying somewhere and fighting to make it better, but CO is just too far gone. We had self-proclaimed Marxist revolutionaries in the House for crying out loud. I see this move to NC as bolstering an already 2A friendly state and creating a stronghold, vs staying in CO and fighting an already lost battle. I'll miss the big wide open shooting areas on National Forest land out there. But, they're pointless if mindless politicians keep banning everything you would take to the range to shoot. I hope states out west like Idaho keep holding down the fort, though.

Anyway, stoked to be here!

Thank you! The inlaws have a boat, which makes things fun and I don't have to buy one haha. We're pretty into surfing so that'll keep us active, luckily!

Sorry to hear about your brother, hope he's doing well. I've heard about the Chemours/Genx/PFAS stuff going on out here. The city claims they have it under control with their new filtration system, but I trust any government about as far as I can throw it. Will definitely be looking into an RO system.

We were in the Springs and Teller County for 12-ish years. Really enjoy that part of Colorado, but unfortunately Denver drives all the politics for everyone. Many such cases across the country.

I used to drive Gold Camp road in my CJ7 and almost went over the side one winter. It was a long way down. I'd take it over to Cripple Creek when it was just a semi abandoned town. Good times. Hiked up Pikes Peak too but I was some 40 years younger then!

You picked the perfect place, then!

Thanks, he is cancer-free as of last month, so no more chemo and just monitoring from here on out! Very blessed to have gotten his treatment at Duke.

That’s awesome! We drove Gold Camp a lot and explored that whole area. It doesn’t connect to Cripple Creek anymore, though, and it’s mostly taken over by angry mountain bikers haha. Was always great have that trail system so close to town.

Welcome, we're happy to have you with us.
