It looks to be a PPQ replacement/upgrade

* Striker fired 9mm
* PPQ sized
* texturing from Q5 Match steel frame
* Initial 4 and 4.5" models, 5" in pipeline, frames interchangeable
* 19 parts compatibility with PPQ incl. barrel, mags, recoil spring
* full size frame is 18+1, compact is 15+1
* Glock pattern iron sight dovetails
* large mag release
* ambi slide release
* swappable backstrap
* Improved trigger
* "The trigger on our sample gun has about a half-inch of clean, gliding take-up before hitting a brick wall that breaks consistently at 4 pounds, 4 ounces on our digital gauge. Thereā€™s zero overtravel since the back of the trigger shoe hits the frame at its breaking point. Reset is crisp, loud, and tactile with a couple of millimeters of travel."
* Redesigned slide for:
* better grip
* better facilitate optics cuts
* Comes optics ready
* ships with standard fill plate
* includes 1 free optics plate by contacting Walther with what you want
* All models will be optics ready, not making a non-optic cut model
* deep optics cut, can use an acro with stock sights
* stepped chamber
* rear sight windage and elevation adjustable
* MSRP 649$

Edit: it's in stock now

I have a PPQ M2 and like Walther, but I'm having a hard time seeing the point of this one. I was very excited for the announcement too! It looks and even sounds like a slightly different PPQ, even most parts are interchangeable, so...why?

Because they have 3 new models to release that are directly aimed at competing with glock 19, 19x, and 17 mos systems

But they'll lose in a punch for punch fight. And their MSRP is too high to compete, especially considering name recognition. Glock does backstraps now, so Walther lost that advantage. They don't have the wide wide aftermarket support either.
The 30-day return policy is about the only thing they have going for them that Glock doesn't.
undoubtedly, the walthers will be better than glocks in every way - but they won't do more than eat a small percent of the market share.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE fan of walther. I've owned 3 glocks, and sold 2 of them (g2 and g3 = no bueno). The one i still have (g4) is now a dedicated get-home gun that I don't even want to play with. I just want it to sit in a box with a stack of loaded mags and wait.
I trust my walthers every day and every night. I'll always prefer walther - but the company is making too many SKUs the past few years and hoping somebody/anybody likes them.

I'm watching some interviews on it and it sounds like they already considered the aftermarket support side of things. They worked with a bunch of third parties to get things made and ready for the release date. I didn't know the PPQ is an 11 year old gun now though or that the PPQ barrel is also a stepped chamber. I wonder if they're going to discontinue their PPQ models and consolidate everything to this since it's basically a straight upgrade to the lineup.

Aftermarket notes:

* accepts Glock sights
* lots of big holster names
* at least 2 aftermarket trigger manuf. (idk how you could improve on the stock one tbh)
* 3rd party optics plates from C&H as well as the included OEM one
* has threaded barrels available
* extended base pads and mag wells since it uses PPQ mags
* standard light rail
* accepts a lot of existing PPQ parts that are easy to find

I'm not super sure what else someone could want to change.

As far as price, it's initial street covid/biden price is only a little more than the pre covid Glock 19 MOS and that doesn't even include the free optics plate. The optic cut is deep enough that you save on sights since the stock ones will cowitness with most optics out of box. Plus you don't have to spend a bunch of money on a trigger and better sights, as is tradition on a Glock.

I'm considering one cause I enjoy my Walthers but the PPQ isn't great for optics cuts. Sucks the city of dur'm takes like 6 months for a CCW renewal.

I've purchased a PDP Full Size 4.5", but am out of town until Thursday. But already ordered my optic and also a holster in advance to get started settling in with what I like.

I've appendix carried a PPQ 5" for over 6 years. Thanks to a forum member who let me try his actually and he showed me some of the tricks to comfortable appendix carry. I also own a PPQ 45, a P22, had a PPS for summer carry until I finally converted to the PPQ full time, and lust after a Q5 SF. Initially I was skeptical on the PDP, but feel there's enough improvements (grip retention, trigger, and possible slight accuracy increase) that it will give me an additional slight edge in a fight over my current setup. It's just another PPq iteration, not a new model, but PPQ M3 doesn't have any marketing pizzazz.

Kudos to Walther for doing it right with legitimate launch quantities, real aftermarket support, and a great price point in the middle of all the pricing insanity. A lot of people (including myself) would like a SF 45 or 10mm but maybe that's next.

Once I have it in hand, anyone is welcome to reach out and come try the PDP or any of my Walther's out. I'm in the Charlotte area.
