North Carolina State Quarter Rings

Very cool. I've always wanted to buy the dies and try this, but there are too many other projects/hobbies that take precedence. Can I mail you my own silver quarter for the same price? I'm looking at one of the NC silver proofs or a 100+ year old barber quarter.

Possibly in the future, right now I am comfortable with clad. I will be working on silver in the future, just not yet.
Got anything in a 16 or 17? lol
Nothing from a NC quarter. I might be able to get that size out of a 50cent coin. I will give it a try.

Ok, chief. Based on your NC quarter and what shows up after processing, if you were to use this quarter, would "LIBERTY" and "1776-1976" be what's seen?

Do we get to keep the inside piece?
Id be interested in sending a coin to you

That is correct, I don't think I have any bicentennials here to try but they pop up frequently so I would be happy to try it.
This is pretty awesome. Can we send you a quarter/coin?
Possibly, Depending on the coin, I have to be sure I have the correct size die. I would also want to make sure it's not irreplaceable. I do have a failure rate on these LOL

I got a few of those as well. And Bicentennial dollars, too.

What ring sizes work well with what size coins?

@Surveyor I found a bicentennial 50 cent piece and tried it. While its not got perfectly straight sides (I will see if I can work that out) it turned out great. I left a patina on it and hit the high spots with steel wool. I think it came out great. A quarter should work the same but be a bit thinner of a band.

Quarters work great from a size 6 up to a 12, my opinion they work best for a 8-11. Half dollars work pretty well from 9-13. I haven't tried any dollar coins yet.

I like the thicker band on that. You got the "IGWT" in there. Not sure you could get it on the quarter.

This is so flippin cool Daryl. I'm going to have to go on a search for a bicentennial quarter and 50 cent piece. Would love to do this for my son.

I have another decent bicentennial 50 cent piece that should be pretty decent to use. (the more wear on the coin the less detail shows up) I can keep an eye out for a bicentennial quarter. They aren't terribly uncommon. The issue is finding one not worn out.

I got one in my change yesterday but didn't notice it until today.

If you think it's in decent enough shape to get what @JustKeepSwimming is looking for, I can send it to you on his behalf, I guess as long as he's cool with it.

@kcult

Sure appreciate the kind offer my friend! Thanks for thinking of me and my son. That would be pretty cool to get done if Darryl thinks it's good to go.

Very kind offer! It looks like it has quite a few scratches but not worn down. Especially since it’s been carried around for 48 years!!!

I’ll be happy to give it a try. It would be $20 if it comes out good. If it doesn’t then no charge. I’m willing to try.

I'm definitely game if y'all are. Thanks again @kcult. I owe ya one.

@kcult and @JustKeepSwimming I got the coins today and the rings turned out pretty good. There was a slight ding in the rim on the original coin (quarter) that I couldn't work out but hey, its a 48 year old coin LOL. The little ding spread out when I folded the ring in. It only shows since I have it blown up in the pic.

And per your request, I kept the dull finish instead of polishing them out.

Here is the ding.

That's awesome. I dig how they are somewhat one of a kind so to speak. They look great. Looking forward to giving them to my son.

A big thanks, once again, to my buddy @kcult. You doing something kind like that for my son means the world to me.

I haven’t tried one so I’m not sure. I just did an image search and it looks like it would be similar looking to a Kennedy half dollar. Not sure how close it is in size.
They are about the size of Morgan silver dollars … 38.1mm diameter vs 30.6mm … 2.58mm thickness vs 2.15mm … it’s a pretty fair difference

Are you talking about a ring or a bell? For a ring, I have done a Morgan dollar and it’s huge LOL.
I was thinking one for your bell project … one as a ring like you say would be huge NFL linemen huge.
