"Whether my brother was wrong or right, he had a gun pointed at him. I guess he took it upon himself to defend himself. The guy who shot him is a vigilante, not a hero," Jose Garcia told KENS 5. "A vehicle is not worth taking someone's life, I don't care what kind of car it is. You don’t take the law into your own hands. Now my mom, my family, we all have to suffer and just deal with it."

No, Jose, your brother died because he committed a crime and was going to commit another crime to try to get out of the first crime.

Just moved here from Texas, and yeah, you'll get shot over crap like that, and the vehicle owner will not get jailed. As it should be! The problem isn't that the owner thought the truck was worth more than a life... The problem is that the thief thought stealing it was worth more than his own life.

Quote from the Police Chief:

"The owner of the stolen vehicle certainly has the right to track down their vehicle," he said. "Now, we would prefer that they called the police before taking that into their own hands, but he did what he felt he needed to do."

I love this!!!

"A suspected vehicle thief has died in a mall parking lot gunfight in Texas after the owner of the truck he allegedly stole managed to track him down"

So much wrong in this.

Should be:
A vehicle thief has died in a mall parking lot gunfight in Texas after the owner of the truck he stole managed to track him down.

Idiot brother not only neglected to mention his sibling stole property, BUT THEN SHOT THE OWNER. Owner did not initiate gunfight. He did not fire when the deceased produced a weapon (likely did not have time, but that is not the issue here). He fired ONCE HE HAD BEEN SHOT.

I appreciate the grief over a guy losing his brother. It should not be minimized. But cute little towheaded kids you shared ball games with grow up to be idiot monsters and worthless pustules on the anus of humanity. This one got lanced. I hope in the milisecond before he expired he found mercy with God. We are all better off for him being out of here, and I don't care what his brother said.

Excellent point!

They guy didn't die for stealing a truck. For that, he was tracked down and held for the police.

He died for attempting to murder the person he stole the truck from. That shows that he wasn't just some petty thief who didn't really mean any harm. He was prepared and willing to commit violence while performing his criminal activities. The world is a better place for him being removed from it.

According to all the cowboy movies I saw as a kid ,if you stole somebody's horse in Texas they hanged you. 30 years ago people went to jail for about 20 years for Grand theft Auto. These days if you steal somebody's horse ( vehicle) , it's considered joyriding and get slapped on the wrist. Is there any wonder why so many vehicles gets stolen every year ?

His brother, the thief, decided that the vehicle was worth his life when he stole it. HE made the valuation, HE made the choice, HE pulled a gun after he was caught. It was 100% all on HIM! I hate it when people say “This wasn’t worth a person’s life.” Well, that person made it worth his life when HE took it! If you don’t want killed, don’t steal, rape or murder! Simple as that. You know, in the Old West, they hung horse thieves because a horse was a valuable commodity. A new truck isn’t? They hung cattle thieves because food was a va commodity. They hung murderers, bank robbers, claim jumpers, card sharps, snake oil salesmen, and a few politicians. Your life is worth exactly the price you put on it.
