I've never seen A Bronx Tale, but YouTube insists on recommending its clips to me.

This is a favorite:

You know it's about to get really real when someone locks the door and removes one of life's more subtle pleasures: being able to leave when you want to.

I saw the thread title and knew exactly what this was about.

I was 20 years old, managing a Hot Topic, and had this greaser that worked for me, Lucky. He was a fan of this movie.
He told me I should watch this and told me about this line.

I watched it. WOW, great movie!

Yeah bro, GO WATCH IT!
Good story, Chaz Palmin...whatever his last name is, his first producer movie, I think. And a solid one.

Watched it with my dad when i was 14. My boys turning 12 this year. Im thinking he's close enough.

According to most guesses he was afraid if he put it in drive and there was a car bomb it would set it off.
That’s what I heard, but it just seemed to me that it would have been rigged to the starter not the drive gear.
I just now thought of this-
In demolition derby’s, they tend to drive backwards so they can preserve the car’s vitals, engine and tranny, and use the rear as a battering ram…
Maybe if some shenanigans went down, Sonny had that planned…

Interestingly enough, the main guy was also on the Sopranos, tried to rob someone to score drug money and killed an off duty cop, served like 10 years. That really happened in real life.

Also,
Joey Diaz brought this up on Joe Rogan’s podcast, about how authentic that movie was-
They showed/brought respect, tried to be fair, the bikers were idiots, and then they showed them less than respect,
But Diaz pointed out that the real gangsters beat the bikers down, then the hang arounds, then the wannabes, then the little kids in the neighborhood.
Interesting observation from a master comedian and criminal

Or as Kenny Rogers put it...

When Tommy turned around they said, "Hey look! Old Yellow's leaving"
But you could've heard a pin drop when Tommy stopped and locked the door

I rewatched that a few nights ago. I don't think I've seen it 10+ years. I'm so glad it was brought up by @9outof10mms. What a classic. Thanks!

@9outof10mms you watch yet????
Nah man. Gotta wait for a night where daddy has the TV to himself. Or at least mommy and daddy...and hopefully it's not any more bloody/vulgar than The Godfathers. Otherwise, it's a daddy-only night!

It's not a bloody movie, some violence, sure, but not over the top, just beating some folks up. Not many though (outside of the biker scene, that's the biggest one).

Yeah it’s not bad like you are thinking,
It’s actually really tastefully done.
A really good movie.

The tall guy on the right was a real NYPD Detective I worked with (as a young buck).

The young actor, Lillo Brancato, wound up a junkie and was involved in the murder of an NYPD officer.
