To get this mounted up, I could slip a spacer over my 1/2x28 piston or go with a fixed mount. What are the reasons to pick one over the other?

I’m not familiar with that firearm but it looks like a blowback action. The barrel doesn’t tilt. There’s no reason to use a piston. One would want a direct thread or personally I’d set that up with a 3 lug.

Here’s the question I’d ask myself before deciding…

Will I ever want to shoot this on a tilt-barrel pistol?

If the answer is yes, I’d use a piston and a fixed barrel spacer. If the answer is no, go directly thread or 3-lug.

This is because if you remove the piston, you’ll fill the birdcage with crud, and the piston teeth won’t want to go back into the grooves they’re supposed to engage…at least without a decent cleaning.

I’ve dedicated some of my cans to PCC builds and use direct thread for all of them, as I don’t have any reason to remove them often to swap around. If I was gonna swap, I’d go 3-lug. Other pistol cans just get used with handguns.

That makes perfect sense and is a point I hadn’t considered. I’m glad I asked. 👍

This one will be swapped around with handguns so piston and spacer it is.

ive used a fixed barrel spacer to essentially convert a piston mount to a “fixed” without running into the fouled threads issue a la DT mount. However I’ve ultimately settled on 2 types of pistol caliber cans. Larger diameter for PCC for which I run 3 lug and thinner diameter to clear sights on a pistol via piston mount. This has become very popular approach.
